Dear Families,

Next week we’re beginning our first theme in our classrooms, “My School and Me”. In the first week of this theme, children will be introduced to their classroom, their teacher, their classmates, and to the school campus. The first week of school will be very exciting for your child with so many new things to learn including new school routines. We will be talking about routines your child does at home to get ready for school, such as getting dressed, eating breakfast, and brushing teeth. Review with your child how he or she gets ready for school. Ask: What do you do first? Next? Last?

Next week’s Family Connections activities can be found at https://lilypad2.frogstreet.com/public/resouce-detail/1fc03758-c14f-42e4-8e93-004212620693

Next week’s storybook, “Chloe Gets Ready for School” can be found at https://lilypad2.frogstreet.com/public/resouce-detail/a6ccff96-1608-44bb-917e-612d6f07fe1c

We’re so excited to continue exploring with your little one!

First Tuition Payment Information Deducted 9/15/2024 (Peer Models)

HALF-DAY TUITION FOR PEER MODELS

The half-day peer model program is $140 per month. A nonrefundable deposit of $50 will be applied to the first month of tuition for new peers. Short months, five-week months, holidays, and snow days have been averaged. This means you will pay the same amount each month (September through May). Deductions will not be made for a child’s absence due to illness. There also will be no deductions for family vacations.

Preschool tuition payments will be uploaded in Infinite Campus mid September and payments can be made online through the parent portal under fees.

Refunds are not offered for the time period your child attends the preschool program as a peer model if your child qualifies for special education services as a preschooler with a disability.

Safety Information

At Gahanna-Jefferson Public Schools we are proud to provide high-quality learning experiences for all students. We also recognize that children enter our classrooms with a variety of lived experiences and circumstances. As a school district, we are fully committed to meeting the needs of the whole child, and understand that student learning and achievement are best supported in a physically and psychologically safe environment. Our school, family, safety, and mental health agency partnerships are the cornerstone of our whole-child approach to teaching and learning, and ensure that all children are able to navigate their school experience in the way that best meets their unique needs.

Our school has adopted The “I Love U Guys” Foundation’s Standard Response Protocol (SRP). Students and staff will be training, practicing, and drilling the protocol. The Standard Response Protocol (SRP) is based on an all hazards approach as opposed to individual scenarios. The premise is simple - there are five specific actions that can be performed during an incident. The SRP is based on the following actions: Hold, Secure, Lockdown, Evacuate, and Shelter. Read about the Standard Response Protocols.

Safe Snacks Safe Snacks

Students should pack a healthy nut free snack and drink daily. Foods such as grapes should be cut up as a preventative measure for choking hazards. Staff may offer the child a different safe snack option if there are safety concerns with the snack that was provided by the parents/guardians.

Birthday food treats will not be allowed at school. Feel free to send non-edible items instead! We do want to celebrate your child's birthday, we just want to be respectful to students with food allergies!

Steps for Becoming a Volunteer

Process:

  1. A GJPS staff member will notify the school community of a need for volunteers.

  2. Family members will contact the building coordinator or teacher to express an interest in volunteering.

  3. Coordinator/teacher will share the Online Volunteer Application and Background Check Link: https://apps.raptortech.com/Apply/OTkwOmVuLVVT

  4. Volunteers will complete the application at least 5 days prior to the volunteer opportunity.

Note:

Other siblings can not volunteer with family members.

Visitors will continue to have their driver’s license scanned with our Raptor system which checks them against the national sex offender registry. This would include parents coming to have lunch with their student(s), guest readers, corporate presenters, etc.
