Thornton Creek Digest
Jan. 14, 2026
From the Principal
Happy Wednesday, TC Community!
We kicked off this morning with a meaningful assembly celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.. A huge shout-out to our First Grade students for sharing why this day matters, and thank you to Michaela and our in-house band for leading us in song as we honored such an important figure. It was also wonderful to see so many first-grade families in attendance—thank you for joining us!
Looking ahead, we have some exciting events coming up over the next couple of weeks. These experiences are only possible because of our amazing volunteers—and we always need a few more helping hands. Please check out the links below if you’re able to volunteer in support of our Talent Show on February 6 or our Chess Tournament on February 7.
Keeping it short and sweet this week—thank you for sharing your students with us each day.
With a Smile,
Brandee

Thornton Creek Parent Sponsored Ultimate Frisbee Interest Survey
A committed group of adults is pulling together the details for TC 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade Ultimate Frisbee teams this Spring. We plan to hold practices once per week at the Thornton Creek field; games will be on Saturdays starting March 7 through May 9. Ultimate is a wonderful sport that has an incredible spirit of the game creating a welcoming and inclusive opportunity for all.
Please express your child’s interest in playing with this survey by January 30th. We hope to accommodate all, but please recognize that if interest is high enough we’ll need additional coaching support and may run into field space issues. Elementary teams are composed of a mixed-gender team of five players on the field with minimum two girls playing at all times. If you are willing to help coach this season, please indicate that in the survey.
Applying to Thornton Creek | New Process
To summarize:
- Students are assigned to their attendance area school (not Thornton Creek).
- Families must apply to Thornton Creek through the "Open Enrollment for School Choice Process." This includes families with students in our current PreSchool cohort.
- An application to a Choice School does not guarantee an assignment.
- To apply, submit a "School Choice form" via the Source between January 5th and January 31st.
- Families new to SPS will be able to submit their School Choice request with their registration.
