Anglo European School
14th September 2026
Launch of Our International Visits and Exchange Programme
We are delighted to launch our 2026 International Visits and Exchange Programme. At Anglo, international learning is at the heart of our ethos. From curriculum-enriching field studies and cultural visits to work experience placements and international exchanges, our programme enables students to broaden their horizons, develop independence and build a deeper understanding of different cultures, traditions and communities. The programme includes a diverse range of opportunities across the world, with exciting new destinations continuing to be added.
Information has been circulated to parents on the opportunities for each year group this week, with all applications due by 30th September.
We really hope that as many students as possible take these amazing opportunities offered to enrich their learning beyond the classroom.
AES Staff Training Days
The first two days of the academic year were always spent with staff collaborating and learning together.
Mrs Gee said: "Ensuring our staff engage in meaningful and effective professional learning and development is critical to the success of this school. We are blessed with staff who are committed to continually improving their practice and during the two days of training this week, we focused our learning on inclusive practice, SEND reform, innovative use of AI to enhance learning and we all completed our annual statutory safeguarding and child protection training.
I'm grateful to our wonderful staff for ensuring that our Year 7s and Lower Sixth had a smooth start and the whole school has a warm, well organised and happy return to school."
Welcome to the Newest Members of our Anglo Family
It has been a real pleasure to welcome our new Year 7 students, students joining the Lower Sixth, and all those who have chosen to become part of the Anglo Family for the first time this term. Starting a new school can be both exciting and daunting, but our new students have embraced the experience with enthusiasm, confidence and positivity.
Joining the Anglo Family means becoming part of a vibrant, inclusive and internationally minded community where students are encouraged to challenge themselves, celebrate diversity and strive for excellence. We are excited to see what our new students will achieve during their time with us.
We would also like to extend a very warm welcome to all our new parents and carers. We know a positive partnership with you is critical to your child's success. Please take opportunities to engage with the school, sharing expertise, resources and perhaps donating a little time to ensure you also feel part of our Anglo Family.
Form Names
At the start of the new academic year, Year 7 students have been learning about the origins and significance of their form names and the inspiring people who are commemorated in this way, while students across the rest of the school have also had the opportunity to revisit and celebrate the remarkable individuals who inspire our tutor groups.
To help bring these stories to life, two Year 11 work students, Wajida and Faith worked closely with the Media Department during their 2 weeks of work experience to create a series of engaging videos for each form name. These videos have been shared with form groups across the school, helping students to gain a deeper understanding of the people, values and achievements represented by their forms. Thank you to both students for their hard work and creativity.

BUILDING UPDATE
Progress Report by Mrs Miller, Business Manager and Director of Finance
As many parents and students will already be aware, construction work on our exciting new school development began in earnest over the summer holidays. All temporary accommodation units have now been successfully installed on site. The final portakabin for this phase arrived on Friday 4th September, completing an impressive programme of work that saw 12 modules relocated and a further 86 modules delivered and installed. This includes 60 modules forming the teaching block, 8 modules for the administration block, 2 modules for SEN provision, and 16 modules providing office and welfare facilities for Kier Construction, who are managing this build. At the end of the day on Friday 4th, we saw the departure of the huge crane that has been a regular visitor for the last 6 weeks.
Parents may also notice that cones and some temporary traffic management measures around the surrounding school have now been removed. These helped manage traffic and kept the surrounding area safe whilst big units were transported onto site.
Mrs Gee, Mr Seager and Mrs Miller will continue to undertake regular site visits throughout the build to monitor progress closely and ensure that the project remains on track. Mrs Gee also met with Councillor Lesley Wagland, representing the local community, to discuss the development and ensure that communication remains open and constructive throughout the construction period with local residents.
To help our new parents and students visualise what is to come, we have attached a fly-through video showcasing the design of the new building, alongside a drone video providing an aerial view of the site and the progress made so far. We hope you enjoy seeing how the project is developing and sharing in the excitement of this transformational investment in the future of our school community.
We look forward to bringing you further updates as this exciting project continues to progress.
Open Evening for prospective Year 7/Lower Sixth students 2027
Please feel free to share this flyer:
Fidget Toys
Fidget toys, squishies, putty, kneadable erasers ("knee-dough") and similar items are not permitted in school. Please do not send these items to school with your child.
In a small number of cases, reasonable adjustments may be made to support a student's identified special educational needs. Any such arrangement must be discussed and agreed in advance with the SENDCo or Designated Safeguarding Lead (or Deputy DSL) and will form part of an official support plan.
Any fidget toy or similar item brought into school without prior approval may be confiscated. Confiscated items are likely to be retained until the end of term before being returned.
Sixth Form Dress Code Reminder
Our dress code recognises that you are young adults in a school with an international and diverse community with an academic ethos. The code provides you with greater freedom for self-expression but also reflects that you are role models for students in the main school and that you share the workplace with professionals. Please could all students remind themselves of the full dress code.

SPORT
PE Curriculum Timetable and Extra-Curricular Activities
Students and parents often like to look ahead and see the range of sports and activities that will be covered throughout the year in PE. Please see below the PE curriculum timetable for 2026-27, allowing families to see what each year group will be participating in across the academic year.
Please note that students will need the appropriate equipment for certain activities:
- Football lessons: football boots and shin pads are required.
- Rugby lessons: football/rugby boots and a gumshield are required.
The PE Department has also released its Autumn Term extra-curricular programme, offering a wide range of clubs and activities across all year groups. We encourage students to get involved, try something new and make the most of the many sporting opportunities available at Anglo European School.
For full details, please see the PE Curriculum Timetable and Autumn Term Extra-Curricular Programme.
National Champion: Alex Celebrates American Football Success
Congratulations to Upper Sixth student, Alex, who recently helped his team, London Blitz U19, secure the American Football National Championship title in Coventry.
London Blitz completed an outstanding season by defeating Nottingham Caesars 12-8 in the national championship game and finishing the season undefeated with an impressive 8-0 record. Alex, who plays as a wide receiver, was part of the championship-winning squad and played an important role throughout the season.
Alex has been playing American football for six years and has progressed through the various age groups before competing in his first season at U19 level. He trains for around six hours each week and credits his success to dedication, perseverance and a love of the sport.
Alex said: "Winning the championship was one of the greatest feelings. I was able to overcome adversity and all my hard work paid off. My team finished undefeated this season. I chose American football because I enjoyed watching games and highlights so I thought it would be fun to play. Students should try american football because it is a sport where there is an opportunity for anyone regardless of their size so, anyone can play. It is also very fun and rewarding to play."
Looking ahead, Alex hopes to win another national championship and has ambitions to continue playing at university level or even in America.
Following in Her Footsteps: An Inspiring Meeting with an Anglo Alumna, written by Deputy Head Student Maite Schulze-Casademunt
Two years ago, I had the pleasure of meeting a previous Head Student from Anglo as my doctor in St Guys Thomas Hospital, London. This occurred as we had discussed the topic of what I was going to do in Sixth Form, and she mentioned she had done the IB as well, in which led us to realising she went to Anglo in the 1970s. She campaigned to change the blouse colour from an incredibly bright yellow to the much better, lighter yellow we see now – which I was very grateful for to say the least. I went back for another appointment a couple months ago and was able to update her on becoming Deputy Head Girl which was very wholesome to be able to do.
I ended up giving my badge to her (sorry Mrs Gee...), as she mentioned she never got one and noticed my lanyard. It was very fulfilling to give a badge from an Anglo lanyard to an NHS one - almost a full-circle moment for us both as I aspire to be in her position later in life. She was very pleased by the action, and I felt honoured to give it her. It was very motivating as an aspiring medic to hear her journey in the IB and in Anglo, and she gave me inspiring advice on pursuing my career and to keep working hard. They really do mean it when they say it's a small world.
Mrs Gee said: "This wonderful story perfectly captures what it means to be part of the Anglo Family. It demonstrates how the connections formed through our school can span generations and inspire future aspirations. It was especially touching to hear that Maite gifted her Deputy Head Girl badge to a former Anglo Head Student who had never received one herself. To ensure that Maite still had this important memento of her leadership role, we were delighted to present her with a replacement badge. Stories such as this remind us that the values of Anglo live on long after students leave our school.”
Join the AESA Team and Make a Difference
The Anglo European School Association (AESA) is looking for new committee members and volunteers to help support the school community.
Our committee meets around five or six times a year, usually in the evening. Meetings are a mixture of online and occasional face-to-face sessions, making it easy to get involved around other commitments. You do not need any previous experience, just a willingness to share ideas and help us organise activities that support the school and enrich opportunities for students.
We're also looking for volunteers who can lend a hand at some of our fundraising events throughout the year. This might involve helping on refreshment stalls at evening events, supporting our popular Quiz Night, or assisting with lunchtime stalls at Christmas and Mother's Day.
Whether you can join the committee or simply help at the occasional event, your support would be greatly appreciated. Every contribution helps us raise valuable funds for the benefit of our students.
If you'd like to find out more or get involved, we'd love to hear from you. Together, we can make a real difference to our school community
