This Week at Schmalz
It’s been another busy and exciting week at Schmalz Elementary! Tomorrow, Friday, September 25, is the last day of our Scholastic Book Fair, so if your student hasn’t had a chance to shop yet, there’s still time to find a great new book! Families can also continue shopping online from home.
Looking ahead to next week, Wednesday, September 30, is our next PurposeFULL People Kick-Off! We’ll be focusing on our October character trait, Responsibility, and celebrating with our monthly color, ORANGE! 🧡 Students and staff are encouraged to wear orange on Wednesday as we kick off a new month of building strong character together.

District Autism Parent Trainings
The Department of Special Education is pleased to offer a series of District Autism Parent Trainings for parents and caregivers of students receiving special education services. These trainings are designed to provide families with information, strategies, and resources to support their child's success at home, in school, and within the community.
All trainings will be conducted virtually through Microsoft Teams (LINK). Please see the attached flyer for dates, times, and training topics.

5th Grade Parents
In accordance with Texas Education Code 28.004 and Senate Bill 9, 5th grade students will receive instruction on the required health TEKS specific to abuse prevention and violence prevention.
Under Texas statute, parents/guardians must provide consent for their student to participate in the lessons that address the topics of abuse prevention and violence prevention.
On Tuesday, September 1, 2026, parents/guardians will receive information via email on how to view associated lessons and record their decision for student participation in these lessons.
Below are the windowsfor both the parent consent and when lessons will be taught:

Instruction Window: November 3, 2026 – December 17, 2026

Love and Logic
Love and Logic parenting classes will be offered during the Fall semester of 2026. Katy ISD families from any campus may register to attend.
Families who wish to participate in Love and Logic courses may pay $10 for the cost of the Love and Logic workbook through the Pay 'N Go system. Please reach out to the campus Love and Logic facilitator to sign up and arrange to pick up materials.

Katy ISD Required Registration Before You Volunteer!
Before volunteering at Schmalz, all volunteers must be registered and approved through Katy ISD’s Raptor system. Volunteers must register or re-register each school year.
Once you’re approved, you can volunteer at any Katy ISD campus and easily track your volunteer hours. Thank you for helping keep our Schmalz Sharks safe! 💙

Schmalz Elementary is proud to partner with the YMCA to offer before and after school child care on our campus.
The YMCA provides a safe, engaging environment where students can participate in homework time, enrichment activities, games, and more before and after the school day.
