Wiggin Street Parent Update

Better Together and Reaching for the Stars!
Families,
What an amazing first week we’ve had!
We spent time building relationships with students and teaching expectations for positive behavior through our theme this year, “Reaching for the Stars.”
Next week, we will continue this theme with our PBIS Kickoff on Friday. Kenyon athletes will be joining us to greet students and help us celebrate!
Learning About Our Theme
Students watched a video introducing how they can respect themselves by having a growth mindset, using the Power of Yet, and setting goals to “Reach for the Stars.” Many classes have also begun writing their personal goals for the year on star cutouts, which will be displayed on our front bulletin board. Be sure to take a look at what we’ve started—it’s already shining brightly!
School Spirit
Don’t forget—our Spirit Wear Online Sale ends September 1st. This is a wonderful way to show your Wiggin Street pride and support our school community.
We hope your kids had as much fun as we did during this first week! Enjoy a few beginning-of-the-year pictures below, and thank you for making the start of our year so special.
Have a great week!
Sincerely,
Christy Grandstaff

Friday Night Football @ MVHS: Go Jackets!
The Mount Vernon community has always shown unwavering support for our student-athletes, and we’re grateful for that tradition of pride and spirit. Last year, we experienced some challenges with unsupervised minors and crowding in common areas, which led to disruptive behavior and congestion.
As we begin a new season, we are renewing our commitment to making game nights safe and enjoyable for everyone.
Game Night Expectations
-
Students are expected to remain in the stands during the game.
-
Elementary-aged students must be accompanied by a parent or adult in order to attend.
Thank you for partnering with us to create a positive, family-friendly atmosphere where the focus remains on cheering for our Yellow Jackets!

Parent BCI Background Check for Field Trips
We require that all adults attending field trips will need a BCI background check on file. The board will pay for any parent's background check done through the MVCSD district office to go on field trips or to volunteer at the school. The BCI background check will need to be done each school year and needs to be on file in our office. If any parent needs a background check, please go to the district office with your driver's license. Thank you.
School Attendance
You can send a note with your child to the office in the morning if there is a change in their pick up routine. Sometimes changes are necessary during the school day for pick up. If you have a change in the way your child needs to go home, it is preferred that you send an email to your child's teacher and Alicia, our secretary, at ahiggins@mvcsd.us. Phone calls must be made to the office before 2:00 pm if needed, so the change can be communicated.

Chromebook Insurance
Chromebooks
As a district we are 1:1 on Chromebooks, and students in grades 2-5 receive a touchscreen Chromebook to be used in class. K-1 students regularly use iPads and/or Chromebooks that are assigned to students and kept in the classroom.
The MVCSD Student Electronic Device Handbook can also be found on the district website, but I've linked it here for convenience. Please read carefully to understand that "a Student Electronic Device or any of its accessories that are lost (whereabouts unknown) or damaged is the responsibility of the student and parent involved in the loss of property.
There is an option to purchase insurance on devices kept at school, and more information can be found here: OPT IN Student Electronic Device Insurance Flyer (These will be sent home at the start of the school year.) The cost is $39 without a charger and $46 per device with a charger (K-12). Accidents happen, so I highly encourage the purchase of insurance to save you from paying for the cost of a replacement screen or Chromebook with a replacement cost of $260-$368.
