Registration Planning
Secondary Course Selection and
Registration Planning
Selecting courses for the upcoming year is a great time where families and schools collaborate to ensure the best academic path for students. Especially in years of transition to middle school and to high school, there are many questions regarding changes in schedule, coursework, teachers, and procedures.
Parents and Guardians will be invited to events where administration and counseling staff go over all this information and welcome you to preview the campus. Watch your email and social media for dates & times. In this newsletter, we offer some resources and clarification to the many academic options in LISD.
To start exploring prior to your child's campuses events, we encourage families to view the Middle School and High School Academic Planning information and websites listed below.
MS Course Selection & Registration Planning
This is a very exciting time for students and parents! Middle School is an opportune time for your student to begin more rigorous coursework. Students will also have an opportunity to explore a variety of enrichment classes that could lead to possible career paths in the near future. As your student goes through the selection process, encourage them to consider taking classes that will challenge them to be a learner as well as help them learn life skills they will use when they are in high school and postsecondary.
Due to different needs and staff availability, there may be some courses that are not offered on every middle school campus. The counselors on your middle school campus will provide this information to you when you go through the enrollment process.
While in middle school, you will also have the opportunity to take some high school-level classes that will award you high school credit. This will allow you to have more flexibility in your high school schedule and may give you a chance to take more courses that are related to your future career path. Lewisville ISD offers many ways for you to be prepared for a productive, successful adult life.
Parents will receive communication from their campus about school specific registration timelines and due dates. Save dates and attend events to be fully informed of all the options available for your child.
Please see the LISD Middle School Academic Planning Guide for all of the details in one place!

In High School, your student may be confident in course selection based on prior experience. For all families, it's important to consider a variety of things when mapping out an education plan for your child: Will your child continue their education in college or in a trade or technical school? Does your child want to learn a career skill in order to enter the full-time workforce immediately after school? Is your child interested in a technical field? There are many resources to help you through course selection as you and your student begin/continue planning for their postsecondary future.

Planning for CCMR
The mission of LISD is to engage and inspire learners and leaders throughout each step in the PK-12 journey. This purpose drives our work each day as we plan experiences for students that acknowledge and ignite passions and interests.
To address readiness, a set of broad, shared approaches to teaching and learning will ground the experiences for students and define a culture of high expectations in ALL LISD courses.
- A commitment to creating a classroom community of learners
- A commitment to rich, authentic learning experiences
- A commitment to instructional practices that promote meaning-making
- A commitment to assessment practices that lead to deep learning
- A commitment to a student-centered approach to instructional design
Regardless of the pathway our students pursue - College, Career, or Military - LISD strives to ensure student readiness for any of these future endeavors through a variety of opportunities at each level. You can read more about the Criteria for Meeting CCMR here.
Accelerated Block: LISD high schools run on an accelerated block schedule, allowing students to get eight (8) credits per year. Four (4) credits in the Fall and four (4) credits in the Spring.
CCMR: College, Career, and Military Readiness
Credits: Earned after successful completion of a high school 18-week course (1 credit). A half credit is earned after successful completion of a high school 9-week course (.5 credit).
CTE: Career Technical Education -- The goal of Career and Technical Education (CTE) in Lewisville ISD is to provide students with real-world experiences and hands-on training to help them begin identifying possible career choices. Some of our Career Center students will earn an Industry-Based Certification and then go straight into the industry after graduating high school. Other students may take engineering or health science courses, which is a great way to build a skill-set foundation they can transfer into a traditional university. The great thing about our Career Centers and our main campus Programs of Study, in general, is there is truly an opportunity for all students, regardless of their potential career path.
Dual Credit: Courses that count for both high school and college credit. Dual Credit through LISD starts in 10th grade.
Personal Graduation Plan (PGP): A working document for every LISD student that contains the courses an individual student will take in high school. This plan will change as the student matures and their interests change.
TECC-East & TECC-West: Lewisville ISD’s two Career and Technical Education (CTE) centers.
