WHS Athletic HoF- Anthony McDonald

It is hard to find a three sport star athlete as accomplished as Anthony McDonald. He

captained the football, wrestling, and lacrosse teams, being named as a Patriot Ledger
All-Scholastic and Bay State Conference All-Star in all three. But that does not even begin to

scratch the surface as to the athletic success he accomplished while at Weymouth High

School. Wrestling was arguably his best sport, where he had a remarkable career,

finishing with his career as a four year starter with an amazing 160-25 record with over 100

pins. As a junior, Anthony was undefeated in Massachusetts competition and was selected

as the Division 1 State Outstanding Wrestler Award with his first loss of the season taking

place at the New England Championships. As a senior, Anthony did what few were willing

to do and bumped up to the 135 pound weight class where he battled the returning New

England Champion throughout the Division 1 South Sectionals, Division 1 States, and
All-States, losing in close matches. Anthony did beat the eventual New England Champion
that year at the prestigious Lowell Holiday Tournament where he became Weymouth’s first
ever champion. After three trips to the New England Championships, Anthony finally made the

podium his senior year with a fourth place finish with wins against both the champion and

third place finisher. Anthony was also inducted into the Massachusetts Wrestling Hall of

Fame. In football, Anthony was a two year starter and captain his senior year, and was

selected as a member of the Shriners Game, where top players in Massachusetts are

selected to play in a football game. Anthony was also selected as a Patriot Ledger All-

Scholastic and a Bay State Conference All-Star. Lacrosse was much the same where not

only was he named captain, but he also was selected as a Patriot Ledger All-Scholastic and

a Bay State Conference All-Star.

Anthony went onto wrestle and play lacrosse at the prestigious Merchant Marine Academy at King’s Point with former Weymouth teammates and fellow all-state champion, Daniel Villanova and New England Champion and Hall of Famer PJ Silva. Anthony currently lives and works in New York City, NY.
