State Mandates and Grading Scale

State Mandates Update

The following items were addressed in the Meet the Principal Night regarding the updated state mandates for the school year:

  1. Grade Floors - Beginning this school year, the South Carolina Department of education has eliminated the grading floor. As a result, grades will more accurately reflect each student's demonstrated learning and academic performance, ensuring that grading practices align with state expectations and academic standards.
  2. Content/Credit Recovery - In order for a student to be eligible to participate in a district-approved content recovery program, a student must have completed all required assignments for the relevant area of the course in a manner consistent with district policies for timely submission of student work.

Attendance Information and School Hours Attendance Information and School Hours

📚 Attendance Matters

Every day counts!

Students who attend school consistently are more likely to:

  • Earn higher grades
  • Stay on track for graduation
  • Participate in extracurricular activities
  • Build strong relationships with teachers and peers

Parents should submit documentation for all absences within district guidelines.

🕗 School Hours

Building Opens: 8:30 AM

First Bell: 8:50 AM

Instruction Begins: 9:00 AM

Dismissal: 3:45 PM

Students should arrive on time and be in class before the tardy bell.

Attendance Expectations

To support academic success, Woodland High School maintains the following attendance guidelines:

  • Students may have up to 5 unexcused absences per semester.

  • For quarter‑long courses, students may have up to 3 unexcused absences.

  • Students are permitted 5 parent notes per semester.

    • 🎺Parent notes must be submitted within three days of the student’s return.

    • Notes submitted after the three‑day window cannot be accepted.

  • Students may submit timely, accurate, and legitimate medical notes at any point during the semester.

Please be aware that exceeding the permitted number of absences may result in a failure due to attendance (FA), regardless of the student’s academic performance. Consistent attendance is essential and students must be present to learn, grow, and succeed.
