Updated Student Mobile Device Policy
The School Board has adopted an updated districtwide policy limiting student use of cell phones and other personal mobile devices during the school day. The policy applies to students in preschool through grade 12 and is intended to reduce distractions, strengthen student engagement and relationships, and support safe, focused learning environments.
Please read the attached letter for an overview of the new expectations and use the buttons below to view the complete policy and procedure. High school students and families will also receive additional information directly from Mount Baker High School regarding building-level procedures.
Superintendent Update
Welcome back! As we begin the 2026–27 school year, I am excited to welcome our students, staff, and families back to our schools. This year, we will begin bringing our new strategic plan to life, with a continued focus on ensuring that every Mount Baker student experiences belonging, learns to persevere, and graduates prepared for what comes next. Click the link below for the full version of our new plan.
One of our first opportunities will be developing a Graduate Profile that identifies the skills, knowledge, and qualities we want every Mount Baker graduate to possess. We want this work to reflect the priorities of our entire community. Parents, family members, and community members who are interested in participating are encouraged to watch for more information about how to get involved.
As always, you can email me at jschenck@mtbaker.wednet.edu with any questions, ideas, or concerns. I look forward to a great year of learning, growth, and partnership across Mount Baker School District.
- Jessica Schenck, Superintendent
Chromebook Agreement and Assurance Program
While students in grades K-6 will use devices that stay at school, students in grades 7-12 will be assigned a Chromebook they can take home during the 2026-27 school year. Schools will provide students and parents with a Chromebook Agreement that outlines responsible use and care as well as an Assurance Program. This program is designed to lesson cost if an accident or theft occurs.
Starting in the 2026-27 school year, grade 7-12 students are automatically enrolled in the program and will receive a $10.00 fee for the school year. Families may still choose to opt-out of the Chromebook Assurance Program. Those who choose to opt-out of the program will be fully responsible for any associated cost for damage, loss, or theft of their Chromebook and the $10.00 fee will be removed from their student’s account. To opt out, contact the MBHS or MBJH school office within thirty (30) days of the first day of the school year.
