What's going on in class?
ELA with Mrs. Remington
The students have been diligently working on character analysis, focusing on finding evidence to track a character's development and growth. They've made great strides in selecting strong evidence and are becoming more proficient in their analysis. Recently, they completed an assessment on character analysis and citing textual evidence for Part 1 of Touching Spirit Bear. In the upcoming weeks, they will continue to strengthen these skills as we move into Part 2. After this unit, we will shift our focus to identifying themes. The students are putting in a lot of effort and making impressive progress.
Literature with Ms. Maurais
October was an action-packed, suspense-filled month in literature class. Our focus has been on exploring the depth of figurative language across various types of media. Students began by reading The Most Dangerous Game by Richard Connell, followed by an in-depth analysis of the three types of irony and the story’s symbolism, which they illustrated in a creative comic strip project. We then watched a short film and dissected each scene for classic thriller and suspense tropes. The students put their skills to the test by writing their own suspense stories, where they practiced techniques like manipulating style and form, using limited perspective, and crafting imagery to build suspense. Looking ahead to November, we’ll begin one of our major units—the argumentative unit. This will involve a variety of activities, including persuasive papers, a commercial project, and a class debate. Exciting challenges await!
Math with Mr. Redstone
Students completed Unit 2. In this unit of study, students learned about dilations and similar figures. They worked on proving that two figures are similar by providing a sequence of transformations mapping one figure onto another. Students also learned about using a proportion to find missing side lengths in similar figures problems. We will next move on to learning about slope and proportional relationships.
Science with Ms. Cloutier
Hi Everyone! The month of October has been busy with posters. One on the lunar cycle and another on eclipses. We are finishing up a scaled solar system poster that is 4 meters long. We will be creating orreries very soon, keep an eye out for that information from your student, they might need your help.
Social Studies with Mr. Oliver
In Social Studies students have been looking at the election process in the United States, in particular the Electoral College Election Process. We have continued to learn about Early American history, and are about to begin the Declaration of Independence, War for Independence, and the Constitution. We have spent a lot of time learning about the causes of the Revolution, and parallels to modern day America. Looking Forward, I am hoping to wrap up the American History Unit by the End of November. We will spend most of the Month working to understand the process of creating. our Constitution, and the importance of the Constitution in today's World.
