The Cannon Connection
2024-2025 Newsletter for Cannon Elementary Families
March 30 - April 5, 2025
We successfully made it through the first week back from Spring Break, and we definitely jumped right back in! Our Cannon's Got Talent Show was a GREAT SUCCESS! Our Cubs are so talented, and were absolutely precious! It's not easy performing in front of a large audience, but our Cubs took a risk with confidence to share their talents, which will support so many future endeavors! We are extremely grateful to Cannon parents/grandparents - Presley Miller, Justin Jones, Debbie Flowers, Mabrie Burgett, and Michelle Foiles, for their help in making this show possible!! I'd also like to give thanks to Mandy Coburn, Peter Doyle, Heather Hagar, and Jessica Jimenez for their support and help in preparation for and during the show! During the general PTA meeting our PTA Executive Board also shared that the committee met the budget this year allowing them to financially support field trips, supplies, experiences, and so much more. We also voted in new PTA executive board members for the 2025-2026 school year. Our Cannon community is not whole without our amazing PTA partnership; a huge shout out to all of our members that have stepped up to support our school community!
Look who's going to Odyssey of the Mind WORLD FINALS!
Our very own Team Odyssey of the Mind Grapevine - Team OMG - brought home silver!! Cannon won 2nd place at Odyssey of the Mind State Tournament in Houston and qualified for the World Finals in Michigan in May! WOW! We are so PROUD of these AMAZING young LADIES!!
Please help me give them a HUGE STEMtastic SHOUT OUT! CONGRATULATIONS, TEAM OMG!
Do you have neighbors with children that are interested in joining our AMAZING Cannon community? The Cannon Transfer Window will open tomorrow, Monday, March 24 and will remain open until April 21st. This will be the only transfer window for Kindergarten-fifth grade students to join our school for the 2025-2026 school year. Yes, Cannon is open for Kindergarten - 5th grade transfers to participate in our designated STEM school! Interested families should visit the district transfer website - https://www.gcisd.net/page/transfer-information
Ready, Set, Register! Registration for 2025-2026 School Year Opens April 1
Registration for new and returning students, pre-K through 12th grade, begins Tuesday, April 1.
Why Race to Register Now?
Helps Team GCISD with Planning - Campuses are staffed based on registration numbers. Knowing numbers before the summer minimizes last-minute hiring or the relocation of staff once the school year begins.
It’s a Speedy Lap Through Skyward - Most cells in Skyward for returning students are pre-populated so parents can zoom through the registration process.
Cruise into Summer Knowing Your Student Is Registered - Once you’ve crossed the registration finish line, you can shift into end-of-school year mode, knowing your student is ready for the next school year.
Help GCISD plan for another winning year!
Youth recreational sports are a great way for our staff to connect with our Cannon Community outside the school walls. More talents were on display this passed weekend, and Mr. Doyle made sure to make these Cubs feel very special by attending Saturday Soccer!
As we enter the end of year and STAAR testing season, we want all of our scholars to finish the year STRONG. Please help by making sure your Cub is at school on time each day, showing Cub PRIDE, and giving their full effort to show what they have learned this school year. If there are concerns regarding your scholars' attendance or academics, we will be in touch to discuss next steps.
As always, thank you for your parent partnership!
Proud to be your principal,
Dr. Tina Garrett
We want to recognize YOU!
