Character Trait of the Month
Empathy
This month’s focus is empathy. One way to think about empathy is “understanding and connecting with other people’s feelings.” Empathy is a practice that can help us grow strong relationships.
Empathy is 1 of 3 traits we will focus on throughout the year that helps students Be Kind. Across grade levels, students will be developing skills like perspective-taking, conflict resolution, and leadership.

Reading
Spending quality time with your kids is never time wasted. I hope everyone has enjoyed the board games and cards from Fall Family Night. Find books to read together, too! Engage in conversations and just enjoy each other. Here's a list of activities to do with your child that require little preparation or money:
- Sled together
- Dance party
- Make a craft
- Puzzles
- Board games
- Legos
- Shadow puppets
- Bake together
- Blanket fort
- Charades (see the list below)
Math
- K is working on counting items in a group and joining or adding two groups together. They are still mastering the skill of number recognition for numbers 1-100.
- 1st is working on addition and subtraction math facts through 20 and getting ready to work with addition and subtraction equations. Working with math fact flash cards will be very valuable. They are also working on recognizing 52 numbers between 1-100 in one minute or less.
- 2nd is working on fluently subtracting numbers within 100 and continuing to work on math facts.
- 3rd is becoming fluent multiplying and dividing within 100, learning to find the area of a shape, and continuing to work on math facts.
- 4th is learning long division using a one digit number and continuing to work on multiplication and division math facts.
😄 Why was the math book sad during winter break? 😄
It had too many problems!
