25-26 BTS Staff Information
Hello! My name is Katy Duke and I am your librarian. I live in Royse City with my husband, Josh, & our 14 year old son, Kolby. Josh is a GM for Chili's & Kolby is a freshman at HCA in Rockwall.
This is my 20th year teaching, 5th year in RCISD & 3rd year at the middle school level. I have taught 2nd grade, 3rd grade, been an instructional support teacher and am now starting year 10 at my favorite job ever, librarian!
I graduated from Texas A&M-Commerce in 2006 with my Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education. I earned my Masters Degree in Library Science through Sam Houston State University in 2015. I have a passion for literacy & the freedom of book choice in the library. I can't wait to be of service to you & to get books in the hands of our students.
Everyday is library day! Students can come if they need a quiet place to work or to check out books anytime they are allowed by you to do so. They just need their required school ID & an eHallpass to leave the classroom. If eHallpass tells students the library is full or closed, have them try again later. It could be that I am off campus, have a class in, there's testing or a meeting in the space, or it could be that there are a billion library eHallpasses at that moment.
If you'd like to reserve the upstairs library space, just send me an email to check the calendar and make sure someone else isn't using it at the same time.
I'd love to get all of our ELAR classes in during the first month of school for a quick library orientation. I'll go over all of the library basics with them. Once you know your schedule, please send me an email to get your classes on the calendar.
