April Weekly Update ~ April 17, 2026
A note from Mr. Lee
Dear 6th Grade Families,
Our 6th grade RISE MSTEP testing days are quickly approaching on Wednesday, April 22nd and Thursday, April 23rd. We are excited for our students to show what they know and take pride in their work.
This year, we are creating a different testing environment by focusing our testing into a shorter window to help avoid test fatigue and keep students fresh and focused.
Attendance is extremely important on both testing days. We need all students present and on time so we can maintain a smooth and consistent testing environment.
We are aware that “Take Your Child to Work Day” falls on Thursday, April 23rd. We are asking that all 6th grade students attend school to complete Day 2 of testing. If you would still like your child to participate in that event, they may be signed out from the main office after testing is complete at 11:00 AM.
A few helpful testing tips:
- Get a good night’s sleep the night before
- Eat a healthy breakfast
- Arrive on time and ready to go
- Take your time and read each question carefully
- Do your best and don’t rush
We’ve been reminding our students that this is their chance to show their growth. Stay confident, stay focused, and remember, we can do hard things.
Thank you for your continued support. We are proud of our students and look forward to seeing them shine.
Special Remarks from Mr. Syswerda
Our first track meet of the season is at Cousino High School on Wednesday, April 22nd. All events begin at 4:00pm.
We have several end of the year events lined up for all grade levels. In order to be included, students must be on our earned privilege list. In order to be on the list, students must be passing at least 4 hours of instruction, have limited tardies and avoid suspension. Please encourage your students to be on their best behavior so they can participate in these exciting opportunities.
Quarter 3 Report Cards
Quarter 3 report cards will only be available digitally through PowerSchool. There will be no paper copies sent home. Report cards will be available for viewing for parents in their Parent Portal accounts at the end of April.
6th Hour Early Release
Just a reminder to ensure that classroom disruptions are minimized and instruction time is maximized, we will be strictly implementing our "6th Hour Early Release Policy" for the rest of the year. A letter did go out at the beginning of the school year. We kindly ask for your cooperation in following the outlined process for early student release:
- Write a note specifying your child's name and the desired time for their early release. Please have your child deliver this note to the main office PRIOR to the start of the school day. A pass will be issued for your child to leave the classroom at the requested time.
- To minimize classroom disruptions, office staff will avoid calling classrooms after 2PM. Please ensure that you make appropriate arrangements for your child's early release in advance.
- In our commitment to prioritize student achievement and instructional time, we ask that you refrain from contacting the office to have secretaries deliver personal messages to your child.
- When checking your student out early, please be prepared to present your Driver's License.
NO OPEN GYM
There will be no Thursday morning open gym on April 23rd, April 30th, or May 7th due to MSTEP testing.
