Hey team,

I feel like there are still so many things I'd like to include in this newsletter (like the new Adrienne Gear titles that have arrived and some Canadian author spotlights for I Read Canadian day/month,...), but if I wait to get everything in here, I'll never send this out (something like what happened in October...😉).

It's November already. Perhaps you're diving in to a research project with your students? Please consider using the library and me to support your students with their research! Let me know your topic and I can gather some books together for your classroom library. If we don't have print resources you need, I can always order them or borrow them from another school. As well, I would love to co-teach some research lessons or provide some inquiry tools or support.

Are you looking for some new ways to engage your students in reading for pleasure, how about we arrange a book tasting, speed dating, musical book shelves, a particular topic bingo, you name it...!

If you'd like any of the images below in pdf or jpeg format, please let me know and I can them email to you. Lastly, if you send a newsletter home to your families, could you please encourge them to check out the monthly newsletter from the Library Learning Commons on our school website. It gets updated as the month goes on too!

Cheers,

lorisse

DINOVEMBER IN THE LIBRARY!

Heads up: our Elementary students will celebrate Dinovember in the library starting next week!

DIGITAL PASSWORDS

Here are the passwords for our online resources. Have your students access them from the home page of our school library catalogue. Let's get them used to accessing our catalogue. These passwords can also be found in Teams, in the Library Learning Commons folder.

BREAKOUT BOXES

Just to make sure everyone knows - our school has 6 breakout boxes and 30 locks for the boxes. These are located in the MakerSpace, so you should ask Laura if you are interested in using them. We have also had a subscription to the digital Breakout EDU (no boxes or locks needed). Shall we renew our subscription to the digital platform and the library of breakout games? If this is a resource you will use, please let me know! 🔒

TREATS & PAGES, Our Middle School Book Club

This year we are, again, spotlighting different favourite middle school authors. Are there any staff members who are interested in hosting a month? Students read a book by that author before the meeting and then sign up for some freshly baked cookies, a slice or two of pizza or some other treat on the Monday or Tuesday before the meeting. Meetings will happen on the last Wednesday of the month, during the outside time.

READING LINK CHALLENGE FOR GRADES 4 + 5!

Grade 4 and 5 students have an opportunity to join a Reading Club that is sponsored by our public libraries! Six titles were just announced on Nov. 1st! Students will be put in to teams of a maximum of 6. They read all or many of the titles and prepare for a trivia like competition where they will compete first at a school level, then at a district and even possibly at a Lower Mainland event. Any grade 4 or 5 teachers want to help support our teams?
