ParentSquare ParentSquare

zoom_out_map

We are excited to announce that we will implement a new form of school-to-home communication in Lake Orion Community Schools called ParentSquare, debuting district-wide this summer.

This unified communications platform, which will replace SchoolMessenger, is designed to keep parents and guardians informed and encourage greater engagement and connection with LOCS. Parent-staff communication will occur within the website and/or app, depending on the parent’s preference.

There will be no work for families to “join” the new platform as all families will be automatically connected, using their current profile information. For now, we are just sharing an exciting update ahead.

In other words, keep an eye out for $120 per child at the beginning of summer!

2025-26 Cell Phone/Personal Technology Device Protocols 2025-26 Cell Phone/Personal Technology Device Protocols

LOCS developed protocols to reduce the in-school personal technology availability at all levels beginning with the 2025-26 school year.

The goal is to remove personal technology (cell phones, personal laptops, smartwatches, earbuds, headphones, and other wireless communication devices) within the classroom environment.

The updated protocol by level:

  • Elementary School -- Students may not bring personal technology devices to school.
  • Middle School -- Cell phones and other personal electronic devices, including earbuds, may not be used during the school day and devices must be always silenced and out of sight.
  • Learning Options High School -- Use of personal technology devices is not allowed during instructional time and cell phones will be placed in classroom storage during the class period. Devices will be re-acquired and allowed during lunch.
  • Lake Orion High School – Personal technology is not allowed to be used in classrooms during instructional time, except for laptops as approved by the teacher. The other personal technology may remain with the student out of sight but only used during passing time and at lunch.

Each level will have appropriate consequences as outlined in the student handbooks for violations of the protocol.

More details are available on the LOCS Cell Phone/Personal Technology Device page.

Class of 2029 Service Learning Information Class of 2029 Service Learning Information

Dear Class of 2029 LOHS Dragons:

20 Service Learning Hours are a graduation requirement for all Lake Orion High School students throughout your 4 years as a student at Lake Orion High School. Hours must be completed at a non-profit, 501C-3, or tax exempt organization. Organizations will be required to provide a copy of their tax exempt status to Lake Orion High School.

Service learning (volunteering) teaches you how to interact in real life settings using the skills and knowledge learned in the classroom. Service hours are submitted through an online platform, “x2VOL,” which enables you to enter service hours, look for volunteer opportunities, write a valid reflection and receive contact verification, all in one convenient location. You do NOT log any service hours on paper at the high school. It is HIGHLY encouraged that you use a LAPTOP when logging your hours, not the app on your phone. The app is unreliable and does not give a full site experience.

Your registration information is already uploaded into the x2VOL system and it is YOUR responsibility to finalize the registration of your account.

Any summer hours earned MUST be entered by September 30 of the current school year and ALL hours earned during a school year must be entered within 30 days of completing the activity. There is no exception to these deadlines.

Complete, 7 STEP DIRECTIONS for creating your x2VOL account can be found at the bottom of this email. Please complete this BEFORE freshman registration day. Instructions for submitting service hours can be found on the school website at Service Learning - Lake Orion Community Schools (lakeorionschools.org) under the “How to Complete a Service Hour Submission” tab. There is a tutorial for x2VOL at the top of the website.

As a LOHS Dragon, you will receive monthly emails with local events seeking volunteers and the email is posted on the Service Learning website. Summer service opportunities for 2025 are also posted on the school website and at the bottom of this email.

If you have an idea of a service project that is not listed, please stop by the Career Center BEFORE serving or read through ALL the “Rules and Regulations of Hours” section on the Service Learning page of the school website.

If you have any questions, please email ServiceLearning@lok12.org.

Sincerely,

Kristi Pavelich
