May Parent Newsletter 2026

Sea Gate ScoopMay Parent Newsletter 2026

Dear Sea Gate Families,

As we enter the final weeks of the school year, I want to take a moment to reflect on the incredible journey our students and staff have taken together. This year at Sea Gate, we truly made waves through hard work, perseverance, curiosity, and growth both inside and outside the classroom.

May is one of our most exciting and busiest months of the year. Our days are filled with:

  • State and classroom assessments
  • Ongoing instruction and enrichment
  • Special end‑of‑year activities
  • Celebrations of learning and student accomplishments

Our students continue to work diligently throughout testing season and the month of May, and we are very proud of their focus and determination. Testing is only one snapshot of learning, but it reflects the commitment students have shown all year long. Classrooms remain active with meaningful daily lessons, projects, and collaborative learning as teachers continue instruction through the last day of school. Please continue to support your child by ensuring they arrive to school on time each day, well‑rested, and ready to learn. Every instructional minute counts as we wrap up the year strong.

Sea Gate students have truly risen to challenges this year. From academic growth to social‑emotional learning, they have shown grit, kindness, and a willingness to take risks. Thank you for partnering with us at home and encouraging your children to give their best every day.

Thank you for your continued support, communication, and trust throughout the school year. It has been an honor to serve this incredible community another year. Together, we have created a school culture that empowers students to learn, lead, and most importantly, make waves that will carry them forward.

Wishing you a wonderful end to the school year and a safe, happy summer ahead.

Warm regards,

Ms. Kirby

Park and Pick Up Procedures Park and Pick Up Procedures

Reminders for Park and Pick Up

Please adhere to the following procedures to ensure safe arrival and departure:

  • All golf carts are to go through the car line. Please do not park on the grass and pick your child up from Park and Pick Up.
  • Please park at the church parking lot on Seagate Dr NOT West Blvd. Parents are crossing in the middle of the street, not using the crosswalk. this is very dangerous, as buses are pulling in to the back parking lot during arrival and dismissal.
  • Dogs are not permitted on campus at any time.
  • You must bring your sign to safely dismiss students.
  • Please ensure your Pick Up list is up to date and you call in to the office if someone other than the legal guardian is picking up.

Attendance Matters! Attendance Matters!

Our March/April elementary attendance bracket competition was a huge success, bringing energy and excitement to every homeroom. Classes competed to achieve the best attendance, and the winning classroom earned a well-deserved celebration that included a pizza party, extra recess, the coveted spirit stick, and a group photo to capture the moment. This initiative has made a meaningful impact; attendance has increased by 0.90% this year, placing us among the top three in the district. We’re proud of this progress and optimistic about what’s ahead. When students are in school, they are learning, growing, and setting the foundation for strong academic gains.

School Counselor’s Corner

We ended the month of April by celebrating our Students of the Month for Fairness. Congratulations, Seahorses! Our 3rd through 5th graders had a classroom guidance lesson on “Test Prep Success” as we head into state testing. Ask your student about 4 key strategies we learned to help keep us calm and confident before a test: positive self-talk, adequate sleep, a nutritious breakfast, and taking deep breaths. I know our seahorses are ready to ROCK the tests! 3rd Graders will have a breathe and stretch session with me on the hard court the morning of their tests to calm their mind and body. Our May focus will be Integrity which really encompasses all of the character traits we learned about this school year: doing the right thing even when no one is watching. We are approaching our Spring PBIS Day: Surf’s Up, Sea Gate! Thank you to all who signed up to volunteer! It is greatly appreciated. If the sign-up is full and you would still like to volunteer, please email Mrs. Ashley Todd and we will be sure to find a job for you. We will have our 2nd Annual 5th Grade Career Expo at the end of the month for our students to start exploring their interests. As the school year comes to an end, it’s important to start thinking about summer plans. Take time to integrate self-care for your family. Care for your heart, body, and mind this summer. I want to take a moment to sincerely thank you for sharing the incredible gift of your children with me. It has been an honor to support, encourage, and learn from them each day. Every student I’ve had the privilege to work with has touched my heart in a unique and meaningful way. Watching their growth academically, socially, and emotionally has been truly inspiring. Thank you for your trust, your partnership, and for allowing me to be part of your child’s journey this year. I wish you and your family a wonderful, restful summer!

Sincerely,

Katie Violaris

Dear Sea Gate Families,

As we wrap up the 2025–2026 school year, the Exceptional Student Education (ESE) team at Sea Gate Elementary extends our warmest wishes for a safe, restful, and enjoyable summer. We hope this season brings you time to relax, recharge, and create meaningful memories with your loved ones.

We look forward to welcoming you back for an exciting 2026–2027 school year. To our rising fifth-grade students, we wish you continued success and a smooth transition to middle school!

If you haven’t already done so, please take a moment to complete the ESE Parent Survey.

Annual Parent Survey – Florida Department of Education

Each year, the Florida Department of Education (FDOE) conducts this survey to gather feedback on how well schools are partnering with families and encouraging parent involvement in their child’s education. The results are shared with the United States Department of Education, Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP).

About the survey:

• Open to all parents of children with an IEP receiving ESE services from preschool through grade 12

• Not intended for parents of students receiving only gifted services through an Educational Plan (EP)

• Required as part of each state’s State Performance Plan under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA)

Please click the link below to complete the survey.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out. You can contact me directly at (239) 377-8311 or via email at ellisa2@collierschools.com.

Sincerely,

Ashley Ellis

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Games for Gains

Thanks for volunteering for this fun event for our students who earned gains on both ELA and Math on state testing this year. We will need help with setup, breakdown, and running the game stations. Students will spend about 5-10 minutes at each game (think minute-to-win-it style) and rotate throughout the cafeteria. Winning teams will get "shopping time" to spend their points earned.

Summer Reading Reminders Summer Reading Reminders

What an amazing effort our students put forth in the final stretch for our 4th annual Popcorn Reading event! And a BIG shout out to Paragon Pavilion Theaters for providing Sea Gate Elementary students with their popcorn reading incentive each Friday for the last three weeks! We collected over 1,100 weekly sustained, silent reading logs! Thank you to our students for working so hard these last few weeks and especially all year. And thank you to our parents who volunteered for this fun-filled event: Jen Norton, Nighat Kapadia, Leah, Poole, Melissa Dogali, Kate Edwards, Erin Howe, and Idellee Trocio!

SUMMER READING LISTS

I can hardly believe summer is around the corner! Many parents are asking for summer reading suggestions.

First off, i-Ready WILL be available to children over the summer. They can login from any computer by going to canvas.collierschools.com and clicking Resources and i-Ready.

Secondly, below is also a Summer Reading List from the Florida Department of Education. When available, I have added the Lexile levels next to the names of books. (The lower the Lexile number, the easier the book.) The titles in quotation marks are poems, and poems do n0t have Lexile levels.

Also below is a chart that lists the typical Lexile level band for each grade level. You can use these numbers to guide you in choosing books for your child. You may choose books on your child’s current grade level or next year’s grade level; based on your child’s reading ability. If needed, books could also be read aloud if needed.

**Many books online have similar titles. If you order online, make sure to double check that the author matches the list below.

Media Center updates

What a wonderful and eventful year! The year was full of thousands of checkouts, two fabulous book fairs, a record-breaking pumpkin patch, many read alouds, smiles, and READERS! Thank you all for helping to foster the love of reading with your students. As the year winds down, so does book checkout. The last day to check out books is May 13, and all library books are due back to the media center on Friday May 15. Please help your student to locate any missing books so we can get them back on the shelf for next year. I look forward to furthering their love of reading in the fall!

Summer Reading Programs

The public library will be starting their summer reading program on June 2. The best part is that both parents and children can participate! Stop by your local branch and check out the wonderful activities planned all summer long. Click the link for more information: https://www.collierlibrary.org/srp/

As with the public library, Barnes & Noble will also host their summer reading program. To participate, students will read a designated number of books (they can choose the books they want to read!), write about their favorite part in the Barnes & Noble Reading Journal, then bring the journal entries to Barnes & Noble to receive a free book from their list of summer reading books! More information will be available at Barnes & Noble, and on their website, https://www.barnesandnoble.com/b/summer-reading-free-book-giveaway/_/N-2vjz

Summer Technology Updates

Just like last year, all students will be turning in their laptops at the end of the year. Collection will occur in the last two weeks of the school year. Please make sure the keyboard and cover (not the screen) are wiped down with a slightly damp cleaning wipe, as they have gotten dirty throughout the year. Also, please make sure your students have removed all personal belongings from their laptop sleeves, as the laptop, charger, and sleeve will all be returned to the media center. Students in grades 2-4 will receive the same laptop they used this year, so if there are any issues with your student’s device, please have your student tell their teacher so we can work on getting things fixed and ready for next year.

Thank you all for a wonderful school year. Have a fantastic summer and remember to keep reading!
