This initiative supports over 40 nonprofit organizations across our local counties, including Columbus, Brunswick, New Hanover, and Pender. Thank you for considering this opportunity to give back.
All County Choir (4th Grade)
4th Grade Families:
It's time for the All County Choir! 4th graders at TAES are invited to audition to be in the Elementary All County Choir. This is an event where all 9 elementary schools choose a set number of students to participate in 1 choir all together. The students rehearse at their own elementary schools from January - April. Then, on Friday, April 25, all of the students will meet at Heide Trask High School to rehearse together and present the concert that evening. A second performance will be held on Saturday, May 3 at SpringFest in Burgaw. Watching students from across Pender County come together to create a night of music is always a magical event! If your student would like to be in the choir, they can register for an audition with Ms. Payne. Auditions will be on Tuesday, January 7 and Wednesday, January 8. Rehearsals will begin on Friday, January 10.
The Sign Up Genius is linked below.
What: Elementary All County Choir
When: Rehearsals on Fridays afterschool until 3:15
Performances: Friday, April 25 at 6:00 at Heide Trask HS and Saturday, May 3 at SpringFest in Burgaw (time TBD)
BONUS performance: Tuesday, February 11 - Board of Education meeting in Burgaw (2 songs at the beginning of the meeting)

STEM
As you know, we added an additional specials class this year, STEM. Students are absolutely loving it. Our PTA major fundraising project this year is to furnish and get equipment for the room. We are currently in the design and ordering process and should have all of our new furniture and items arrive around November.
In the mean time we are looking to get some support for the consumables used for all the experiments and projects worked on in class. Here is our STEM teacher's wish list for those who would like to support the program:

Transportation Changes
If your student has a change in transportation that is different then then normal, please take the following steps:
- Send in writing (handwritten note, email, rooms message) to your child's teaching
- If you do not get a response by 12 pm the day the change is needed, please call the front office. We will still ask you to send it in writing, but we will be sure the teacher gets the information
- No student can ride a bus other then the bus they are assigned to
- No student can ride a bus with a friend unless they are assigned to that bus
Attendance
In order to streamline attendance, this year we will be receiving attendance excuse notes electronically, not paper copies.
All excuse notes should be sent to tae_attendance@pender.k12.nc.us
This includes doctors notes, parent notes, etc. This allows us to make sure all excuse notes get to where they need to be. It also allows families to have documentation that they sent in their notes instead of things getting lost.
It is still best practice to communicate with the teacher in the event of the absence to ensure students have all necessary make up work, but you do not need to give the teacher the excuse note.
Please review Board Policy 4400 for the full attendance policy and to ensure you are up to date on what constitutes and excused absence. It can be found here:
