This Sunday, September 7th, is the Water Communion!

Key Aspects of the Water Communion:

  • Individual Significance:Each person brings water from a place or event that holds personal meaning, such as a vacation spot, their home, or even the rain from their yard.

  • Symbolic Merging:The waters are combined into a single, large bowl or vase, symbolizing how individual lives and experiences come together to form the larger community.

  • Shared Journey:The ritual reflects themes of reunion, re-gathering, hope, and the refreshing nature of community and solidarity with all life.

  • Congregational Connection:It serves as a way to reconnect after a period of separation, like the summer, and to welcome everyone back to the life of the congregation.

  • Intergenerational and Interconnected:The service is often intergenerational, bringing people of all ages together. The combined water can also be used for other ceremonies or returned to the earth.

Unitarian Universalist Values

Love is the power that holds us together and is at the center of our shared values. The values we share include all the following, which we hold as inseparable and deeply interconnected:

  • Interdependence: We honor the interdependent web of all existence and acknowledge our place in it.
  • Pluralism: We are all sacred beings, diverse in culture, experience, and theology.
  • Justice: We work to be diverse multicultural Beloved Communities where all feel welcome and can thrive.
  • Transformation: We adapt to the changing world.
  • Generosity: We cultivate a spirit of gratitude and hope.
  • Equity: We declare that every person is inherently worthy and has the right to flourish with dignity, love, and compassion.

Our UU Principles

Our youngest Unitarian Universalist children learn these rainbow principles:

  1. RED – Respect each person.
  2. ORANGE – Offer fairness and kindness to all.
  3. YELLOW – Yearn to learn together.
  4. GREEN – Grow by searching for what is true.
  5. BLUE – Believe in yourself and your ideas.
  6. INDIGO – Insist on a peaceful, fair, and free world.
  7. VIOLET – Value our planet Earth.
