D33 recognizes outstanding students, staff members, and community partners who make a difference in our schools through our Board Salutes.

Has a teacher gone above and beyond for your child? Is there a staff member who always makes families feel welcome? Has a student shown leadership, kindness, or perseverance? Maybe a community partner has made a positive impact on our schools? We want to hear those stories.

Board Salutes are a meaningful way to celebrate the people who help make District 33 such a special place to learn, work, and grow. We are always looking for opportunities to highlight the incredible things happening across our community.

One of the world's most famous steam locomotives is coming to West Chicago!

Union Pacific's Big Boy No. 4014, the largest operating steam locomotive in the world, is expected to arrive in West Chicago on Tuesday, June 2. Families will have the opportunity to see this historic train up close during public display hours on Wednesday, June 3, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Larry S. Provo Union Pacific Center (335 Spencer Street).

Visitors from across the region are expected to attend, making this a once-in-a-generation event for our community and a unique opportunity for children and families to experience a piece of railroad history right here in Illinois' first railroad town.

Families are encouraged to make a day of it! In addition to viewing Big Boy, visitors can enjoy family-friendly activities, local restaurants, museums, public art, entertainment, walking tours, and other special events happening throughout West Chicago.

To help plan your visit, the City of West Chicago has created a dedicated event website with maps, parking information, shuttle details, activity schedules, and more.
