Let My Decision Stand
Say It Once and Mean It Whenever Possible
Do you ever feel like a broken record? Are you always having to repeat yourself?
Do you sometimes give in just out of pure exhaustion?
Don't worry, you are not alone.
There are very good reasons why kids don't do what we ask them to do the first time.
* Kids don't share our priorities.
* We've trained our kids not todo what we ask until we're hysterical.
*Kids need us to help them transition to the new task.
* The part of their brain which makes decisions is still developing.
*Kids don't feel heard.
*Kids often feel disconnected from adults.
Here is this month's mantra: Let My Decision Stand
*Observe your child in the moment.
*Remove the distractions by helping them move to the next activity.
*Listen and wait.
*Say it once. Clearly.
*Ask them to repeat what you said.
*Wait and then say thank you.
Remember it is a process that needs practice and repeating. You can do it!
