A Message from the Principal
Hi Mountaineer families,
Welcome to October! We are continuing to build great momentum as we move through the school year. We are now more than halfway through the trimester, and conference week is a great opportunity to check in on how your students are doing, celebrate their progress, and identify any additional support they may need to finish the trimester strong; 9th grade conferences are in person, and 10th/11th/12th grade families will receive a phone conference call this week with current progress.
Beyond the classroom, school spirit has been high! It has been exciting to see our students show up for one another, both on campus and at sporting events. Our new phone policy is also off to a great start. Instead of scrolling through their phones, students are spending more time talking, laughing, and connecting face-to-face. These everyday interactions are helping strengthen the sense of community we want for our school.
We are also continuing to focus on attendance. A week ago, we met with students to talk about the importance of being at school every day and how regular attendance impacts their learning, relationships, and overall success; they will be tracking their own attendance and grades every few weeks in PRIDE for the entire year. We have already seen some improvements in attendance, and we want to keep that progress going. We have included the slides from our student presentation on attendance in this newsletter so families can see the message we are sharing with students. Our message is: You must be present to win!
We also had a fantastic professional development day on Friday. As we continue looking for ways to make our school an even better place for students, we had our ASB students connect directly with teachers to share their perspectives and help us think about how we can continue improving the student experience. Hearing from our students is an important part of making sure the work we do reflects what they need and value.
If you ever have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our main office. Let’s keep building on this positive momentum and make the rest of the trimester a great one!

Attendance Matters
School attendance is like mountaineering: every day you show up is another step toward the summit, and missing too many steps can make the climb much harder.
Did you know…
- There are 28 weekdays during the school year when you can plan vacations/family time.
- Excused and unexcused absences both have a negative impact on student academic performance.
- If you are late getting to school, you need to sign in with the office.
Staff professional development days are great for students to make appointments without having to miss school. Future staff days:
