This year, grades 3-8 will participate in Classroom Spelling Bees in November. Students will take a self-graded Google Form assessment of words only. The School/District Bee will be in December before winter break. It will be in the media center for those who qualify.
The State Spelling Bee typically takes place in February and March. Students are invited to this Spelling Bee Google Classroom. Use class code: bbxdgzkx so that they can access the study lists. If you have any questions, contact Ellen Kruschwitz at emkruschwitz@aurorak12.org
We are excited to announce our second annual Winter Clothing Drive, scheduled for Thursday, September 25, 2025, from 7:00 AM to 7:15 PM.

WINTER SHOES (All sizes)
HOODIES
Please ensure that all items are in gently used condition!
You can drop off your donations with our volunteers at the sidewalk during morning drop-off or at any time throughout the day at the school (ask for John Adams). Additionally, you may bring your donations to the Parent Teacher Conferences to drop off.

Important Information
Advanced Math Placement Process
Over the last year, the Aurora Quest Math teachers have been working on creating an equitable and transparent process for placing students into math courses. The Aurora Quest Advanced Math Placement process is outlined in this document. Our process includes information about the criteria and benchmarks that students need to demonstrate in order to be considered for advanced math classes.
Our goal is to develop confident mathematicians who have a strong foundation of the conceptual understanding of mathematical content and the requisite knowledge and skills. We consistently analyze student data to make adjustments to math class placement as needed.
Empty liter bottles needed!
If you have any empty 2 liter bottles, Ms. Colquhoun and Mr. Nickell need them for a project. Please send any as soon as possible. Thank you!
Aurora Quest, show your school pride! Order this year's new spirit wear today and help support our amazing school! Site is open from Sept 13-Oct 13th. Items will be delivered to the school before November.
Reminders...
APS Student Technology Contract Now Includes Damage Costs
Due to no additional federal funding for devices being available, schools will continue charging families for any damages incurred to district devices during the 2025-26 school year. Please note that the first incident of damage will not be charged. Any following incidents will be charged based on the type of damage.
During online registration and online student check-in for the 2025-26 school year, parents will now sign a student technology device contract that also lists potential costs for any damage to district-issued technology devices. Parents must sign this contract for their student to be issued a Chromebook or other device that they can bring home.
If you have any questions about the new technology device contract and the possible damage costs, please contact 303-326-1985.
Birthday Celebrations
We love to celebrate your children and the day they were born, but we do have many students with food allergies that are contained in the usual celebratory food options like cupcakes and cookies.
In order to make sure all our students can partake in your child's celebratory day, please consider other ways to celebrate your child's special day with their classmates. Click here for idea options.

Run 4 Funds (R4F)
It’s back!!!! Our biggest fund raiser of the year! We are still in need of
volunteers to help oversee the charm booth which is something different that we opted for this year to create a new experience for those that have done the run in the past and for them to create a prize that is unique to the student. This allows our students to highlight who they are vs being handed a general prize that everyone has.

R4F Schedule
****Middle School will be doing a color run! Bring cameras!***
We would like to invite you to cheer on your student from the sidelines. We will have some noisemakers available but feel free to bring your own. Also, it gets muddy (especially as the day goes on) so be sure to wear proper shoes. 7 th is split into two times slots based on the time of their elective.

Where does the money go?
Where the money goes:
Last year we made $38,326.30 with R4F and while that’s a big chunk of change it wouldn’t have been able to cover our yearly budget which is why we do additional fundraising as well as passive fundraisers (King Soopers, American Furniture Warehouse, Dining Out etc) Below is a snap shot of where the money was spent last year. This year we are waiting for a final budget from the school as theirs has been cut greatly so we will either be picking it up or families will have to come out of pocket for events.
Help Feed The Middle School Teachers!
We are entering parent/teacher conference season! These are by invite only but it's a long day for them.
Crazy to believe but it kicks off with middle school on September 25th and we have a tradition of providing dinner for the teachers as they are there ALL day.

****We have heard many parents over the last year and are adding a donation option for the many parents that have shown a desire but work makes it impossible within the time needed. We have already collected some money from a couple of parents so we are excited to see the option being used. You can make a donation on our website on the school page and tag it as Feed the teachers donation. We have two more opportunities coming up for elementary so what isn’t used this round will roll over.
Thank You for all you do to help and grow our community!

How to Volunteer
Our parent volunteers are our rock and help us navigate through the school year with less stress. If you are interested in volunteering, here is how to get your badge and clearance.
We will be asking parents to get their volunteer badges to be chaperones during field trips.
STEP 1: Complete the Screening Process (Background Check). Click Here to be directed to the Aurora Public Schools' website for the screening process.
STEP 2: Fill out the Volunteer form for Mr. Adams, our Family Liaison. He will reach out to you so you can send him a picture of your valid driver's license (front only) and a picture of yourself with a plain background for your badge. Mr. Adams will submit the "Volunteer Approval Form" with both pictures to the Safety & Security Department.
Your volunteer badge will be sent to the school and you will be informed so that you can pick it up once approval from the Safety & Security Department goes through.

Healthy Kids Colorado Survey Coming Sept. 15 - Oct. 9
Aurora Public Schools 6-12th Grade Parents and Guardians:
It is important to understand what is truly going on with the young people in our lives, especially around topics that may be uncomfortable for them to talk about. That’s why APS is proud to join districts across the state in administering a voluntary and anonymous survey to all middle and high school students in an effort to gauge their physical, social and emotional well being.
The Healthy Kids Colorado Survey (HKCS) will help build, enhance and expand programs and practices that improve the health of our youth, not only across our district, but throughout the state. This informative video explains how the HKCS will provide the insight we need to properly address the needs of our youth and support them in powering their potential.
Please note that the survey will touch on multiple health topics including weight, nutrition, physical activity, suicide, violence, bullying, mental health, school safety, tobacco, alcohol, marijuana, drugs, and sexual health. It will also ask questions around youth engagement in their schools and communities. Students are free to skip any questions they don’t fully understand or feel comfortable answering.
You may view the middle school survey, as well as the high school survey. If you wish to opt your child out of participating in the survey, please fill out this Opt-Out Form no later than Friday, Sept. 12. Families may also visit their child’s school to request and complete a printed version of the opt-out form.
The HKCS is supported by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, the Colorado Department of Human Services, the Colorado Department of Public Safety, the Colorado Department of Education, and an advisory group of state and local partners. It will be administered online during the school day and will be open to schools Sept. 15 to Oct. 9, 2025.
The data collected will be available to the community in summer of 2026. With this information, state leaders will be able to identify the top challenges that students are facing. This will aid district staff including our Mental Health and Counseling team in providing students with proper prevention and support resources.
To learn more about the Healthy Kids Colorado Survey, review the FAQ, visit HealthyKidsColo.org, or contact Healthy Kids Colorado Survey Director Dr. Ashley Brooks-Russell at 303-724-8437.
Thank you for your continued support.
