Shine A Light: #GreenLightProjectNE
Shine a Light on Mental Health: Join the #GreenLightProjectNE this May!
Mental health challenges affect more people than we may realize. In fact, one in five Americans will face a mental health condition this year, and nearly half of us will experience a diagnosable mental health challenge in our lifetime. Sadly, many suffer in silence, hindered by stigma and misinformation. But there’s hope—and together, we can help change the narrative.
This May, Tobacco Free Lancaster County, the Mental Health Association of Nebraska, and the Lancaster County Prevention Coalition are excited to unite for the third year in support of Mental Health America's “Light Up Green” campaign through our local #GreenLightProjectNE. We invite you to be part of this powerful initiative to raise awareness, share resources, and break the stigma surrounding mental health.
Each May, Mental Health America encourages communities across the nation to light up buildings in green to bring attention to mental health. We’re hoping to see Lancaster County and all of Nebraska shine green in support of those affected by mental health challenges. By lighting your home or business in green, displaying a yard sign, or sharing our messages on social media, you can help amplify this important cause.
Many individuals struggling with mental health also face challenges with tobacco and nicotine use, often relying on them to cope with stress, anxiety, and depression. However, nicotine addiction can exacerbate mental health symptoms, creating a harmful cycle of use and withdrawal. Our goal is to encourage healthier ways of managing mental health and to promote resources available in our community.
Here’s how you can get involved in the #GreenLightProjectNE:
Light your business or home in green throughout May to show your support.
Display a yard sign to help amplify the message. Signs are available at all partner locations while supplies last.
Engage on social media: Follow, like, and share our posts, or tag #GreenLightProjectNE in your photos of green lights!
Starting April 21st, you can pick up a free green light bulb and yard sign (in English or Spanish) at the new Mental Health Association of Nebraska Lincoln office at 1500 South 70th Street, Suite 201.
Throughout May, all participating organizations will share content on social media, providing education, resources, and support. We encourage you to follow along and help spread the word by sharing posts to raise awareness.
