Former MDJH Student Crowned Miss Achievement NL 2026–2027
Congratulations to former MDJH student Alpita Patro, who was recently crowned Miss Achievement Newfoundland and Labrador 2026–2027.
The Miss Achievement NL Leadership Program is a youth empowerment and scholarship initiative for young women that focuses on community involvement, leadership, personal growth, public speaking, and fitness. This year 43 young women came together for a leadership weekend in St. John’s with the crowning of Miss Achievement at Holy Heart Theatre on Saturday, May 30th, 2026.
MDJH is proud to celebrate Alpita’s accomplishment and wish her continued success in her year as Miss Achievement NL.
Grade 9 Carnival
On May 21, 2026, Macdonald Drive Junior High hosted its annual Grade 9 Carnival, providing students with an opportunity to celebrate and enjoy one of their final events together as the senior class of MDJH. The evening featured a variety of activities including laser tag, escape rooms, Wii Sports and Just Dance, karaoke, clue orienteering, a photo booth, video games, and a BBQ.
Students participated in events throughout the evening, with prizes awarded and plenty of opportunities to socialize and make lasting memories with their classmates. Thank you to our staff, School Council, Student Council, the City of St. John’s Youth and Recreation team, and all volunteers who helped make this year's Grade 9 Carnival a success. We hope our Grade 9 students enjoyed this special celebration as they prepare for high school.

Le Concours d'art oratoire (Provincial French Speak-offs)
Two of our students competed in the French Speak-offs today at MUN - Cailyn Hinchey & Samara Martin (both from 9-8 Early French Immersion). Their category included grade 9 and 10 EFI students so some tough competition.
This is an annual speech arts competition hosted by Canadian Parents for French. They both gave excellent speeches and answered the judges questions very well!
Cailyn won first place!
Math Department News
