Good afternoon, Murphy families,

I hope you're having a great weekend!

Last week was a busy one, including Open House, Parent Council meeting, a safety drill and a special assembly to end the week. It's amazing that we are heading into the final full week of September!

PBIS Weekly ROAR Winners!

As part of the PBIS program, we continue our tradition of recognizing students from each room on a weekly basis for their demonstration of Respect, Owning actions, Achievement and Responsibility (ROAR). Here is our crew from last week!

Open House

Thanks to everyone who came out for our Open House last Monday. It was great to see you all! If you were unable to make it, please be sure to connect with your child's teacher if you have any questions.

Teamwork Assembly

We ended the week with an assembly celebrating teamwork. Important aspects of teamwork were discussed and students identified reasons for strong collaboration. Each session ended with a surprise appearance by the Celtics championship trophy as we used their recent success as an inspiration.

Parent Council

Our first Murphy Parent Council meeting of the year happened last week. We had a great turnout and began conversations about some exciting topics for the year. We encourage all of our families to become involved with this organization as we collaborate to create numerous fun activities throughout the year. If you were unable to make it last week, please consider joining an upcoming meeting.

5th Grade Instruments

Our 5th graders had a demonstration and description of our music instrument program today. If you are interested in learning more, please refer to this information.

Backpack Food Program

Please see info here regarding our backpack food program.

Afternoon Procedures

As a reminder, during the afternoon pickup, it is important for traffic to flow in one direction. When car try to go "out through the in door" it creates a safety hazard. Thanks to everyone for helping with our efforts to ensure a safe experience for all.

Also, the parking along the tree line in front of the building is for staff. Please avoid parking there in the afternoon as it creates a potential safety hazard while backing into traffic and bus lines.

** Please share this message with anyone who may pick up your child.

Arrival / Dismissal

Please take a few moments to view our Arrival & Dismissal information. If friends or family transport your child to or from school, please share these procedures with them.

EARLY DISMISSALS

Please send in a note when dismissing your child. This helps to remind the office and the teacher of the time during the day this will occur. Please do not dismiss your child early to avoid the traffic. This is extremely disruptive to the classroom when teachers are assigning homework, passing out notices, or completing other necessary tasks. When a child is dismissed by someone other than a parent/guardian, we require identification and a signature for release.

REGULAR DISMISSAL

Please send a note to the school if your child is changing their regular routine of dismissal. This includes walkers, after-school care, and the bus. Please do not leave this responsibility to your child. If a note is not received, staff will assume that your child's typical routine for that day will be followed.

Social Studies and Science

  • Social Studies and Science: Social Studies and Science are valuable and essential content areas that are part of all students' education in Grades K-5. We are responsible for covering Massachusetts Learning Standards in these subject areas in all grades, and all teachers plan and implement engaging lessons that meet the Learning Standards for their grade level. The Mass Department of Elementary of Secondary Education has really helpful guides that explain these standards for families: Mass Learning Standards for Families
