West Point El. Parent Update
Week of February 2, 2025
Dear West Point Families,
Thank you for coming to parent conferences this week! We value the opportunity to meet with our families and discuss how we can best support your students. Thank you, also, to our PTA volunteers and families for all your work with preparing teacher meals, running the Book Fair, and sponsoring Breakfast, Books, and Buddies. Our PTA adds so much enrichment to our school and magic for our students. Thank you for supporting these activities.
Here are four important things to know for the coming week.
- The PTA is sponsoring Ribbons Week this week. Students have the opportunity to participate by dressing up each day of the week and hearing important messages. Please see the dress up calendar below.
- Evaluate Davis Parent Surveys are now open on your parent/guardian myDSD account. Instructions for accessing these surveys are provided below. We hope you will take a few minutes to share your feedback with us. The surveys close on Friday, February 28.
- Kindergarten Priority Registration is open through Friday, February 28. Thank you for sharing the word with neighbors! Please see below for more information.
Sincerely,
Marjorie Conrad and Christie Bouy
Principal and Administrative Intern, West Point Elementary

Weekly Principal Paw Award Recipients
Congratulations to our Principal Paw Award recipients this past week! We love celebrating our students at our golden ears party and sharing the many ways they go above and beyond to be safe, respectful, responsible, and caring.
Celebrating Learning!
Students in Mrs. Bargen's 5th grade class painted frescos to culminate their unit on the Renaissance. Students in Mrs. Olsen's 2nd grade class learned about western expansion while riding in covered wagons.

Experience the Magic
Magical Manners
This week's manner is "Be a Problem Solver." Our students are smart and are capable of finding good solutions to problems. Being a problem solver when you can and knowing when to ask for help builds confidence and prepares our students for the future.

Game of the Week
February's LETTERING Focus - C is for Confidence
We are so excited about our new attribute for the month! This week we are beginning our focus on C, which stands for confidence. Confidence is being comfortable with who you are. You know your strengths and weaknesses, and you know you can keep getting better through practice and effort. You can celebrate the successes of others as well as your own. Being confident in themselves is something our students need!
Your students will be working on activities throughout the month that help them understand what it is to be confident and to start to build that quality within themselves. Be sure to ask them about the things they are doing in their LETTERing books!
February Brag Tags
With the new month comes a new opportunity for students to earn their attendance and reading brag tags. Please continue to encourage your students to earn their brag tags! Students can earn an attendance brag tag if they have 0-1 absences for the month. They earn their reading brag tag by reading at home at least 18 days during the month.

Attendance information
We will be sending out updated attendance letters this week. As a reminder, these letters are sent out after a student has missed 5, 10, and 15 days of school. We are aware that students might have absences due to illness or other reasons beyond your control. However, we still send these letters so parents can keep track of how many total days their children have missed for the school year. As you can see on the graphic below, absences add up and make a huge impact on a student's future success. Andrea Craig, our family advocate, is here to help if your student is struggling to get to school. You can contact her at acraig@dsdmail.net.
Kindergarten Priority Registration
Kindergarten Priority Registration for the 2025-26 school year is now underway through Feb. 28 in the Davis School District. Both full-day and half-day options are available. Please read the attached letter to incoming kindergarten parents. We would appreciate if you could let neighbors with incoming kindergarten students know that we are registering students now for next year. Registration packets are in the office and on our website. You can also click on the following link to list your student's name, and the office will contact you with registration information. https://forms.office.com/r/gaRFdZ8V6n
Thank you!
Evaluate Davis Parent Surveys

Language Immersion Opportunities
The dual-language immersion application is live for the upcoming school year. We are fortunate to have two dual-language immersion schools in our community. Syracuse Elementary offers Chinese, and Buffalo Point Elementary offers Spanish.
If your child will be a first-grader next year, you might want to consider applying for dual-language immersion. Students entering higher grades may be eligible but must pass a language test. You can access the application and information about dual-language immersion at the following link. https://www.davis.k12.ut.us/o/dsd/page/elementary-dual-language-immersion
