Principals' Update
Greetings MacArthur Families,
Happy Friday! It's hard to believe but this is the final MacArthur Notes of September for this school year. We gathered today for our first all school assembly. Our conversation with the students focused on the core values of being respectful and being ready to learn. As a group, we discussed the need to be good listeners to show respect and fully comprehend the task assigned. This focus on being engaged and active listeners to allow them to be ready to learn reinforced the importance of being a positive community member. In addition, we helped to remind students about the importance of having a growth mindset and challenged them to take risks as learners. Students were reminded that learning is a journey, mistakes are a part of learning, and about the importance of the word YET in building a growth mindset when aiming to meet the challenges of their learning day.
This Week: Thank you to all who were able to attend our first in person MacArthur PTO Meeting since March 3, 2020. We are so appreciative of all who came to hear what is planned by our amazing PTO Board for this school year. This was the first of four PTO meetings this year. We encourage everyone to attend our next meeting on January 8, 2025 at 6:30pm in the cafeteria. The call throughout to volunteer, donate, and be active participants in our school community was echoed by many family members who spoke during the meeting. All in attendance were encouraged to bring a friend to the next meeting to increase the group in number and help to grow our MacArthur PTO community spirit as well.
Next Week: Speaking of spirit, our first themed First Friday Spirit Day will take place on Friday, October 3rd. Nominations were made by our 5th graders for ideas. This month's first Friday will be Favorite Team Friday! All students and staff are encouraged to dress wearing the gear of their favorite sports team or their own team.
Picture Day is Tuesday, September 30th! Order forms were sent home earlier this week. Contact Mrs. Santana, margaretsantana@walthampublicschools.org, with any questions. Note: Picture Retake Day is scheduled for November 18th. Click here for more information.
In addition, school will be closed on Thursday 10/2 in observance of Yom Kippur. Sending warm greetings to all who are celebrating.
Volunteers Wanted for MacArthur Mural Planning Committee: Thank you to to those who volunteered to join School Council after last week's request. This week, we invite any community members who are interested in being a part of our planning committee for the development of a MacArthur School Mural. Funding for this mural comes from a generous donation from a MacArthur family. Meetings will take place a combination of in person and virtual meetings. The goal of this work is to identify a muralist and develop our plan alongside the muralist for the "artist in residence" opportunity for this special community project. Contact kevinkmiec@walthampublicschools.org if you are interested in learning more about this opportunity.
Save the Date - Back to School Night: 10/16/25 This special event will take place from 6pm - 7:30pm. Students and families are welcome to join us.
Wishing you and your family a wonderful weekend!
