We’re proud to celebrate our counseling team for earning RAMP certification through the ASCA National Model. This is a big deal. It reflects their commitment to a data-driven, student-centered counseling program that supports academic growth, social-emotional learning, and college and career readiness for every student.

This work takes vision, persistence, and a whole lot of heart. Thank you for leading with purpose, advocating for students, and raising the bar for what comprehensive school counseling looks like at our school. We see you, and we’re grateful for you every day!

Thank you to all of our families who braved the cold and joined us for conferences. We truly appreciate you making the time to connect around your student’s learning and growth. If you weren’t able to attend, we encourage you to reach out directly to the teacher you’d like to connect with to get an update on your student’s progress and next steps. We value these partnerships and look forward to continuing the conversation.

After Winter Break, students participated in North View's Amazing Race! This gives students the chance to practice Knight Pride: Readiness, Responsibility, Safety and Respect in all locations of the school (with some fun)! Congratulations to Ms. McMartin's, Ms. Mease's, Ms. Benson's and Dr. Clark's advisories for winning! Each class decided how they wanted to celebrate, from open gym to a pizza party and Bingo, all students were able to celebrate their win!

Students learn best when they feel safe. A regulated mind, guided by the prefrontal cortex, allows focus and connection. That’s why we’re committed to creating safe, welcoming spaces for students and families, both physically and emotionally.

At North View, restorative practices shape how we address safety and challenging moments. When students experience dysregulation—whether from a classroom challenge or a hallway conflict—we use Dr. Bruce Perry’s three-step approach:

  • Regulate: We first help students calm their bodies and minds through mindfulness activities, a walk with a staff member, or time in a mindfulness space.
  • Relate: Next, we connect with students, ensuring they have a trusted adult—such as a Social Worker, Case Manager, Teacher, Administrator, or ESP—to talk to and process the situation.
  • Reason: Finally, we work collaboratively to address the situation constructively, discussing how to move forward and, when needed, repairing harm to restore relationships.

This process helps create a safe, supportive environment where students, staff, and families can heal and thrive after challenges.

Music

Our orchestra and band students for their outstanding performances at the recent Orchestra Festival and Honor Band concerts. These events showcased not only strong musicianship, but also focus, teamwork, and confidence on a big stage. From careful preparation to polished performances, our students represented our school with pride. A big thank-you to our music staff for their dedication and to families for supporting the many rehearsals and performances that make moments like these possible.

Science

In a recent science unit on Chemical Reactions and Matter, students kicked off by exploring the exciting phenomenon of bath bombs, asking how something new, like the fizzing gas bubbles, can appear from everyday ingredients. Acting as scientists, they created “notice and wonder” charts to record observations, conducted hands-on experiments mixing baking soda and citric acid, and used evidence to show that the gas produced is indeed a new substance. Building on these discoveries, students are now developing models to explain what is happening to these substances at the particle level, connecting what they see in the lab to the invisible interactions that drive chemical reactions.

Thank You

A big thank you to our families for supporting your students’ thoughtful questions and excellent behavior during our recent student walk-out and safety Q&A! Because of your guidance at home, we were able to support students during the walk-out and use the Q&A format with over two hundred students to address questions and concerns about recent community events. These activities gave students a safe space to ask questions, feel heard, and better understand how the school is responding, including the safety measures and supports in place to care for their well-being.

ACCESS Testing Coming SOON...

WHAT is ACCESS testing?

ACCESS testing is an anual test for students who qualify for EL services. The test consists of 4 test sessions. Each session focuses on one domain of language. The four domains are listening, reading, writing, and speaking.

WHEN is ACCESS testing?

ACCESS testing this year is happening February 3rd to February 20th. Make up testing will be ongoing as needed.

8th graders will be tested in Listening, Writing, Speaking and Reading the week of February 3rd.

7th graders will be tested in Listening, Writing, Speaking and Reading the week of February 10th.

6th graders will be tested in Listening, Writing, Speaking and Reading the week of February 17th.

If you have questions about your students specific test schedule, please ask them or reach out to Ms. Lyons; LyonsC@district279.org

WHY does ACCESS testing matter?

ACCESS testing is important because it measures students growth in English. Their scores are used for placement in classes for next school year.

This test is also the only way for students to demonstrate their proficiency in academic English and to no longer be considered an EL student. Students who score a 4.5 overall and have at least 3.5 on each of the four domain tests qualify to exit EL services.
