Principal's Note Principal's Note

Hello Ramsey Families,

As you close out the holiday weekend it is my hope that you have found time to spend with your middle school student to check in with them on life. There is a lot going on in our world and with the horrific and tragic school shooting last week in Texas, it is on the minds of our students. It is hard to have conversations about the violence in our community and world. Here is a link to a document with helpful tips to talking to our youth about violence (Click Here).

I want to assure you that we are always putting our student and staff safety first. Here are some of the daily things we do to ensure students feel safe at Ramsey:

  • We focus on building strong and meaningful relationships with our students
  • Our staff are always actively supervising students in the hallways during transitions and monitoring students they are releasing from class for various reasons.
  • Our entrances are secured and monitored by our staff and security guard. Signage on every exterior door reminds students NOT to open the door to outsiders and points outsiders to the Grand Ave entrance to gain access to our building.
  • Office staff are very careful in making sure they know who is entering the building and ensuring they sign in the office.
  • Our security guard is also monitoring our building cameras while students are in class.
  • Ramsey has and continues to practice the fire, lockdown and severe weather drills.
  • Our mental health support team meets weekly and provides support to students and their families
  • Finally we have a strong district Security Emergency Management team who is highly responsive when needs arise.

Please assure your student that staff are available to listen to their concerns and we hope that they also are willing to say something when they see something.

Thank you for partnering with us this school year!

Sincerely,

Teresa Vibar

Cross Country at Central

Come join the Central High School Cross Country running team! Our Summer captains practices start on June 13th! For more information, email Coach JG/Mr. Gallagher at john.gallagher@spps.org

Upcoming Volunteer Options

8th Grade Recognition: It’s time to wish our 8th graders well as they head off to high school. Help is needed to serve the students and their families refreshments after the ceremony.

When: Approximately 9:15 – 11 am on Thursday, June 9th. We will be working in the cafeteria while the ceremony is underway in the gymnasium. This is a great opportunity for 6th and 7th grade families to help out so that 8th grade families can enjoy the day! The Sign-up sheet can be found here.

Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) for Fall 2022: We are looking for people to help us with organizing the PTO meetings next year. We all share in the work, but could really use help and fresh ideas around fund-raising, social media/communications, and brainstorming ideas around meeting topics and formats. And you don’t have to be a parent or teacher to participate! As Ramsey changes the name of the school next year, we also hope to rename the PTO to make it clear that it’s more than just parents and teachers - it’s all sorts of family and community members united to help our students and staff succeed!

Please join us! Send an email to RamseyPTO@gmail.com if you have any questions or ideas.

Tech Tips

On Wednesday, June 8, all students will be cleaning iPads at school. All students are welcome to keep the iPads for the summer, returning to school with them in the fall. Any students who are attending Summer School must keep their iPads and bring them to summer school. Only those students who are not returning to St. Paul Public Schools or students whose families don't want the iPads over the summer will turn them in at the library with the case and charger on June 8 after cleaning. Eighth graders attending a St. Paul Public Schools high school do not turn iPads in unless their family doesn't want it over the summer.

2022-23 Course Selection

The past week, current 6th & 7th grade students had the chance to request elective courses for the 2022-23 school year. It is our hope that students shared with You (parents), their course selections. With multiple classes pre-loaded into their schedule, students were asked to choose (1) elective option and (1) World Language option (see form for details). Students will have until Tuesday, May 31st to review and/or make changes to their elective course selections. After that time, all scheduling questions should be emailed to Ms. Woodruff and Mr. Nigatu. For your review, the Course Registration forms with course descriptions are included here.

Health Office Message Health Office Message

COVID Testing Kits

If your student develops any COVID symptoms, please have them take a COVID Test. Rapid COVID 19 Test Kits are available for students to take home (BinaxNOW). You can call the health office during school hours at 651-888-7657, then come to school to pick it up or we can send it home with your student while quantities last. That way you have one available if you need it.

BinaxNOW Test Kits Shelf-Life Extended

Abbott BinaxNOW test kits expiration dates have been extended by the manufacturer. The BinaxNOW COVID-19 Ag Cards have been found to have a shelf-life of up to 15 months, extending the kits for use past their 12-month expiration date. Kits can be used for an additional 3 months post-expiration date.

Please monitor daily for symptoms of COVID-19. If any symptoms develop, stay home and test. Report positive COVID test results to the school health office. This is the best way to know of cases in our school community. We will help determine isolation and quarantine dates and when your student can return to school.
