Good afternoon all

It has been another busy and exciting week at school, with a number of wonderful learning experiences taking place beyond the classroom. Year 1 enjoyed their visit to the Thackray Medical Museum, where they discovered the history of medicine in a hands-on way. Year 4 had a memorable day at the Coal Mining Museum, deepening their understanding of our local heritage. Year 2 also had a fantastic opportunity to learn about the Savile family during their visit to Thornhill Parish Church.

We are making a final attempt at re-arranging our KS2 Sports Day next Tuesday. Lower Key Stage 2 (LKS2) events will start at 9:30am, and Upper Key Stage 2 (UKS2) events will begin at 1:30pm. Fingers crossed for good weather so we can all enjoy a day of sporting fun and teamwork.

Next week, end of year reports will be sent home on Friday. We are also pleased to welcome a number of students from Thornhill Community Academy into school for their work experience placements.

Have a super weekend, and I will see you all next week.

Mr Mitchell.

Exciting News: We’ve Achieved the School Games Mark Gold! Exciting News: We’ve Achieved the School Games Mark Gold!

We are thrilled to announce that our school has been awarded the School Games Mark Gold! This prestigious recognition celebrates our commitment to providing high-quality physical education and sporting opportunities for all our pupils.

What Does the Gold Award Mean?

  • Outstanding participation in a wide range of sports and physical activities.

  • Inclusive opportunities for all students to get involved, regardless of ability.

  • Strong partnerships with local clubs and community sports providers.

  • Commitment to competition, teamwork, and personal development.

Special Thanks to Miss Atkinson

This achievement would not have been possible without the incredible dedication and hard work of Miss Atkinson. Throughout this academic year, she has:

  • Inspired pupils to participate and enjoy PE and sport.

  • Organised a wide variety of sporting events and competitions.

  • Gathered all the necessary evidence and documentation for our application.

  • Supported staff and pupils to ensure everyone could take part.

We are extremely grateful for everything Miss Atkinson has done to make PE and sport such a vibrant part of our school life.

Important Reminder: No Parent Cars in School Car Park Important Reminder: No Parent Cars in School Car Park

We kindly remind parents and carers not to bring cars into the school car park unless you have made special arrangements with us. This is to ensure everyone’s safety, as required by the Health and Safety at Work Act, which states we must manage traffic carefully.

Since September, the absence of a permanent premises manager has made this more challenging. Now, with Mr Caldecott joining us as our new premises manager, we are returning to our usual safe and considerate approach.

If you have exceptional circumstances, contact the school office.

Thank you for your cooperation!

Bike and scooter safety Bike and scooter safety

We would like to remind all parents and carers that children should not ride bikes or scooters in the school playground. This week, we have seen that children can get hurt if bikes or scooters are used in areas where others are playing, walking or even standing.

For your convenience, we have a bike shed by the Sure Start Centre where bikes and scooters can be securely locked up. Once on school grounds, all children must dismount from their bikes or scooters and push them to ensure everyone’s safety.

Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our playground a safe and enjoyable space for everyone.

ParentPay information ParentPay information

This is a friendly reminder that all outstanding balances on ParentPay accounts need to be settled by the end of term. We appreciate your attention to this matter and your continued support in ensuring all school expenses are managed effectively.

You can view your child's current balance and make payments through ParentPay. If you need assistance with your account or have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact the school office. We are happy to help.

Message for parents of children who attend Owls Message for parents of children who attend Owls

Dear Parents/Carers

Thank you again for all your continued support over the last year.

Please can we make you aware that, as usual, Owls will be closing early, at 4.30pm on Friday 18th July. Therefore, we would very much appreciate it if you could all pick up your children promptly at this time.

A reminder also that sessions should be paid in advance via Parentpay. Any sessions for week beginning 14th July must be paid for by Sunday 13th July. This does NOT affect you if you pay monthly via a childcare voucher scheme.

May we also take this opportunity to wish you and all your family a safe and relaxing summer break

Thank you.

Kind Regards

Sonia and the Overthorpe Owls Team
