Hanover Street School Newsletter
January 22nd, 2024
We have two exciting events happening this Friday. The first is the 3rd and 4th grade spelling bee. All eight classes have held their class level spelling bees and now three students from each class will advance to our school spelling bee which will be held in the gym at 1:15. Families of the 24 finalists are welcome to join us. The winner will proceed to the next level which is a state level online spelling bee. If they score well enough, they will then compete for the state title in Concord.
The second event is open to all families and we hope to see many of you here at HSS on Friday evening at 6:00 for the PTO hosted Family Contra Dance! Everyone had fun last year and there's a picture below from that event.
I am also glad to report that the construction project is on schedule and the new classrooms look beautiful already! We are looking forward to planning a ribbon cutting before school opens in the fall.

GREAT NEWS! The Upper Valley Smiles Program is coming to HSS on February 5 and 12th. !
This is a free dental health program for elementary school kids hosted by Alice Peck Day Memorial Hospital. Through the program, your child is eligible for a dental screening and preventive dental services at no cost to you. All you have to do is to fill, sign, and return the consent forms to your child’s teacher. Please note that this program is geared towards children who have not had a dental visit in the past 6 months and not have a dentist visit scheduled in the upcoming 3 months. Forms will go home about a month before the clinic.
The registered dental hygienist can provide the following services:
âť– Dental Screening (simplified dental check-up)
âť– Toothbrush Cleaning (removal of food and plaque with a dry toothbrush)
âť– Fluoride Varnish (brush-on liquid that can help prevent cavities)
âť– Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF) (brush-on combination of silver and fluoride that can help
stop cavities from getting bigger)
After your child’s visit with the dental hygienist, you will receive a follow-up letter explaining the services provided to your child and whether additional treatment is recommended. The hygienist can also help connect you to a dental professional who can provide the recommended treatment for your child, if needed.
