CATCHING UP WITH... Mrs. Edmonston
Dear Coyote Families,
We had another fantastic week at Canyon View Elementary School! This week we celebrated Start With Hello! All week, we had special activities at lunch to help our students make connections with others. On Wednesday, we had our first Character Counts Assembly with our Westview Ambassadors. The Ambassadors introduced themselves and treated the students to a skit sharing the importance of showing kindness to others. Ask your students to tell you about "Caring Cow!"
I want to take the opportunity to let you know about Red Envelope Week, which is coming up very soon! This is our Foundation's biggest fundraiser, and it is a direct ask to families. The Canyon View Foundation funds many important programs, that make a tremendous difference in your children's educational experience. Without your support, these programs go away. Please look out for Red Envelope information coming your way soon, and let's make a difference for our students!
Let's Make it a GREAT week!
Warmly,
Erica Edmonston
Principal, Canyon View Elementary School

RED ENVELOPE WEEK IS COMING!!!
Red Envelope Week is coming! The Canyon View Foundation’s BIGGEST FUNDRAISER of the year will take place between September 22 and 26. What is the Red Envelope Fundraiser? The Red Envelope Fundraiser is a direct-ask fundraiser where the Canyon View Foundation requests the support of our families so we can continue to provide our students with our amazing special programs (Art, Music, PE, Science, and IMPACT), and funding the Innovation Station Lab, technology, software licensing, playground equipment, and much more. These items are NOT supported by the current school district budget.
Individual, class and school-wide participation prize opportunities as well as theme spirit dress-up days are some of the things students can look forward to during Red Envelope Week. Stay tuned for more info. Participation is voluntary and not required.

Volunteer Information
Based on feedback from families and staff, the district is working on improvements to make the volunteer process more efficient and user-friendly.
While our new system is being finalized, we are still welcoming volunteers. For now, anyone interested in helping on campus can do so as a visitor until our updated process launches, tentatively scheduled for mid-September.
We encourage you to take this time to complete your TB assessment so you’ll be ready when the updated system is in place. We will share more details as we get closer to launch. You can learn more about this process by visiting our website.
Thank you for your ongoing support. Our volunteers truly make a difference in the lives of our students.

Meet our Team CV Board Members
Introducing our Team CV Board Members! Team CV consists of the Canyon View Foundation and PTO. Team CV is 100% volunteer run and provides all of our social and fundraising events. What's the difference between the Foundation and the PTO? The Canyon View Elementary Foundation is dedicated to fundraising for Canyon View to provide our children with the best education possible. The Foundation organizes the school's fundraisers such as Red Envelope, Gift Cards, Jog-A-Thon, Coyote Gear, Silent Auction, and E-Waste Recycling. These fundraisers support programs such as Science, Music, Art, PE, IMPACT Reading, STEAM Enhancements, Technology & Software Licensing, Health, and Safety which are not currently funded by state or federal budgets. The Canyon View PTO strives to positively impact the lives of children and families through fun family events, like the Pancake Breakfast, Ice Cream Social, Family Game Nights, Spring Dance and Coyote Round-Up, as well as provide educationally enriching programs like Red Ribbon Week and the Science Fair which are funded by PTO Membership Dues and Sponsorships. Because both groups share the ultimate goal to provide a memorable and enriching experience for our children, the two organizations work hand in hand to ensure we are meeting the needs of our school community. These board members ensure all of the gears are turning behind the scenes, but we know we could not do this without your support. We'd love for you to stop us when you see us and introduce yourselves!

Specially Curated Book Selections From Our Very Own Library-Media Tech!
The month of August marked the 105th anniversary of the adoption of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, granting some women in this country the right to vote. Women’s Equality Day (officially recognized on August 26th) is a great time to learn about history and celebrate the sacrifices of those who fought for changes in laws and attitudes to promote liberty and justice for all.

Equality’s Call: The Story of Voting Rights in America, written by Deborah Diesen, illustrated by Magdalena Mora
This introduction to the history of voting rights in the United States includes a catchy and powerful refrain: “A right isn’t right/Till it’s granted to all.” Charming mixed-media illustrations convey the slow but steady forward momentum of progress and depict increasingly large crowds of people fighting for equal rights over the years. This engaging story explores an important topic that will encourage conversation.
The Voice That Won the Vote: How One Woman’s Words Made History, written by Elisa Boxer, Illustrated by Vivien Mildenberger
Engaging illustrations make this story about women’s suffrage perfect for sharing with young readers. The book’s main characters are Harry Burn, a little-known lawmaker, and Febb Burn, his mother. In August of 1920, American women looked to Tennessee, hoping it would become the necessary 36th state to ratify the 19th amendment. But the first round of voting resulted in a https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LFCdCFWvDAwtie. When Representative Burn changed his vote, he changed history.
Marching with Aunt Susan, Susan B. Anthony and the Fight for Women’s Suffrage, written by Claire Rudolph Murphy, illustrated by Stacey Schuett
All Bessie wants is to go hiking with her father and brothers. But it's 1896, and girls don't get to hike. They can't vote either, which Bessie discovers when Susan B. Anthony comes to town to help lead the campaign for women's suffrage. Stirred into action, Bessie joins the movement and discovers that small efforts can result in small changes—and maybe even big ones. Inspired by the diary of the real-life Bessie Keith Pond, this story with a California connection offers a thought-provoking introduction to the fight for women's rights.

Parkinglot Reminders
- Please do not park along Adolphia Street between Black Mountain and the school entrance. Parking in that location pushes out the line of stopped cars waiting to get into the school, and blocks the only traffic lane, which then causes the stopped cars to back up all the way out onto Black Mountain Road. It is very dangerous!
- Park in marked spaces only: No curb parking along the perimeter of the lot, No parking in Reserved spaces, No parking in the BUS ONLY area.
- If you are driving to pick-up, use our pick-up lane. Meeting up in alternate areas in or around the parking lot is a safety hazard and is not permitted.
Green Cone Zone:
The Green Cone Zone is located on the east side of the parking lot. This area is reserved for loading/unloading of students in our preschool and Special Day Classes who require additional assistance ONLY (Ms. Marty, Ms. Morrison, Mrs. Ruble, and Ms. Dobson's classes). This is not a parking area for TK.
