Winter Weather Winter Weather

Winter has arrived and it seems it comes coming back for more. Since winter break, we have had snow days, NTI days, and an inconsistent return to school. As we continue to navigate through winter, we will continue to send chromebooks home nightly until we feel we are safe to keep them at school again.

As the cold weather continues, be sure your child is bundled up in layers, sweatshirt, coat, etc. We are in an older building and larger spaces are harder to keep warm, so we ask that students be prepared in case their classroom or is cooler.

Lost & Found Lost & Found

Is your child missing a coat or jacket or sweater or any other items? Our lost and found is overflowing and we would love to reunite these lost items with their owners. We are sure they are very needed in these cold temperatures.

LJES is hiring! LJES is hiring!

Do you know someone who loves working with children? We are looking for a permanent substitute. This is a full time position with benefits, working only on the days that students are in school. The permanent sub is guaranteed to work every day of the school year. If they are not needed here at LJ, they will be shared with other schools to fill vacancies.

If you are interested or if you know someone interested in this position, check out the BCPS website for the job posting and to see the requirements for this position.

If you have any questions, you can contact Mr. Mullins at daniel.mullins2@bullitt.kyschools.us.

We are a Title I School We are a Title I School

What does it mean when you hear a school say that they are Title 1?

A Title 1 school is a school that receives federal funding to help improve academic achievement for students from low-income families.

How does LJES use their Title 1 money?

The funding has limitations on what you can do with it as there is strict accountability for those dollars. Typically, LJES uses Title 1 money to purchase classified staff who can assist students who are struggling in class. This year is no different; we hired 2 assistants to work with students in class and through pull out, catching up on learning gaps that are present. We also pay for part of our librarian's salary since LJES only qualifies for a part-time librarian. We want students to have access to books and library services all the time and believe a full time librarian will make that possible. Our librarian is also in charge of chromebook inventory and troubleshooting technology issues in the building.
