From The Superintendent's Desk - September 2026
News From School (September 2026)
Dear Bay Path Learning Community,
I am proud to share an update on the remarkable progress, events, and accomplishments taking place across our district. First and foremost, I am thrilled to share an extraordinary milestone for our school. The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) has officially designated Bay Path Regional Vocational Technical High School as a 2026 School of Recognition! Out of hundreds of schools across Massachusetts, Bay Path is one of only 58 schools to earn this designation—and we are the only vocational high school in the entire state to achieve this honor.
This recognition belongs to our faculty and staff. It reflects the work they do every day in classrooms, shops, and labs, often in ways that never appear in a report. Our academic teachers and our career and technical educators have built a shared commitment to student success. They reinforce one another’s instruction so that students see how the skills they learn in one setting carry into the next. That kind of alignment does not happen by accident. It takes planning, collaboration, and a willingness to keep adjusting until it works for every student.
I also want to recognize the many staff members whose contributions make that teaching possible, including our counselors, paraprofessionals, special education team, our administrative staff, facilities, food service and transportation crews. Each of them helps create conditions in which students can focus, grow, and succeed. To everyone at Bay Path: thank you! This designation is a direct result of your dedication, and it is a credit to what we can accomplish together.
Our student growth tied us for the 12th highest accountability percentage increase in the state, raising our target score from 60% in 2025 to 76% in 2026. Furthermore, our students earned 100% of available points in ELA, Math, and Science achievement. This incredible recognition reflects our shared vision and core values—Strive for Excellence, Own It, Act with Integrity, Be Kind, and Have an Attitude for Gratitude —and proves that a Career Vocational Technical Education provides world-class preparation without compromise.
Beyond this momentous news, our school community has been actively engaged in a variety of educational, community, and professional initiatives:
Community & Educational Partnerships
Energy Innovation: School leaders met with ESA-Solar to discuss the Carpenter Hill Power project in Charlton. The proposed Tesla Megapack battery energy storage system offers exciting potential opportunities to expose our students to cutting-edge battery storage technology.
Higher Education & Financial Literacy: Discussions were held with representatives from Nichols College to explore dual enrollment, articulation agreements, project opportunities in business, marketing, accounting, and entrepreneurship, and financial literacy programs. I also met with Dr. Joseph C. Hartman, President of Western New England University, to explore additional opportunities for Engineering, Business, and Healthcare. Additionally, we are meeting with Hometown Bank on October 8th to discuss local partnerships.
Community Outreach & Foundation Support: I had the privilege of speaking at the Auburn Chamber of Commerce Annual Golf Tournament and the Southbridge Lions Club meeting to share updates on Bay Path, including our new Admissions Lottery. We also extend our deep gratitude to Lamoureux Ford for donating proceeds from their annual car show to the Bay Path Education Foundation for the second year in a row.
Manufacturing Day: On October 2nd, I attended the Chamber of Central Mass South Manufacturing Day event to discuss workforce, energy, and Chapter 76 opportunities with local state legislators.
Student Life & Admissions Events
Senior Sunrise: On September 14th, our seniors gathered at the football field for a cool morning sunrise and breakfast to mark the unofficial start of their final year.
College Fair & Fall Advisory: On September 17th, over 200 students and families attended our annual College Fair featuring approximately 60 colleges and military representatives. On September 22nd, over 300 guests joined us for our Fall Advisory Meeting, featuring a meal prepared by our Culinary staff and students, program highlights, and an update on our cooperative education program.
Admissions Activities: We hosted our annual Bay Path Admissions Breakfast for Middle School Counselors on September 29th. We are currently visiting regional middle schools, with our 8th Grade Tours and Open House (6:00–8:00 PM) scheduled for Wednesday, October 28, 2026.
Homecoming Week: Homecoming Week will take place from October 13th through October 17th. Final details regarding activities, games, and events will be posted to our website soon.
Professional Development, Safety, & Staff Recognition
Professional Development & ALICE Training: On September 18th, our staff participated in academic and CVTE planning. In the afternoon, staff completed practical ALICE active-threat response training in close partnership with local law enforcement and SRO Officer Beane to ensure the safety and preparedness of our school community.
Staff Appreciation & Milestones:

We celebrated National Human Resource Professionals Day on September 26th, thanking our Human Resource Specialist Lisa Courchaine for her dedication.

We are looking forward to a great start of the school year...
Dear Bay Path Families (August 2026):
Welcome back! On behalf of the School Committee, the Administrative Team, and myself, I extend a warm welcome to your family as we launch the 2026–2027 school year. We hope your summer offered time to rest, recharge, and enjoy each other's company, and we're excited to welcome your students back to campus.
Bay Path is a community you’re part of too – not just through your student, but as a family we’re proud to have alongside us. We want this to be a place where your student feels safe and supported, where their confidence grows, and where they’re building skills that carry far beyond graduation.
While our hallways were quiet this summer, our district team worked hard behind the scenes, refreshing our facilities, updating technology and safety infrastructure, and preparing classrooms and shops. Guided by our institutional commitment to Career Vocational Technical Education (CVTE), every effort undertaken this summer was instrumentally led by our Core Values: Own It, Strive for Excellence, Have an Attitude for Gratitude, Act with Integrity, and Be Kind.
Looking Ahead This Year
As we enter 2026–2027, there is real excitement for the opportunities ahead. This year marks a pivotal moment in our school's trajectory. We are launching our new Special Education Delivery Model, directly aligned with the Academic Discoveries recommendations. This model is designed to strengthen learning outcomes and ensure that every student has the support they need to thrive.
We will also bring our first Strategic Plan to a successful conclusion while initiating collaborative work on our new 3-Year Strategic Plan. At the same time, our Scheduling Team continues its extensive work with DESE, CAST, and ABLE as we prepare for the rollout of our new schedule for 2027–2028 and beyond.
A few important dates:
First day of school: September 2, 2026
Freshman Orientation: August 24, 2026
A Bright Year Ahead
Every member of our Bay Path community, students, families, and staff alike, plays a role in our students' success. Thank you for entrusting us with your child's education. We're so glad to have your family back on the Hill, and we look forward to a wonderful year ahead.
With warm regards and gratitude,
