Good Morning,

What a wonderful first week of school for all students! It was great to see so many happy faces engaged in learning the routines of the day and visiting all of the new spaces in the building such as the library, STEM room and the gross motor spaces.

We are excited to kick off our Super Reader literacy initiative. Be sure to check it out as it is listed below in the newsletter.

Drop Off/ Pick Up and Parking:

This week all students will walk in door #2. There will be no more morning meeting spots. Any WECC staff member can help escort your child into the building safely. The students did an amazing job this week learning about the morning routine and their meeting spot in the cafeteria. The cafeteria is where students wait for all of their classmates to arrive to school before heading off to the classroom with the teaching staff. We ask families to stay on the sidewalk and not to crowd near door #2 so that all students can safely enter our school building.

2:15 student dismissal:

We are going to change the 2:15 dismissal up a bit by spreading the classrooms out across the sidewalk in the front. The grassy area and sidewalks are too congested to safely dismiss our students. See the updated map below.

We appreciate your patience as we work through these changes, but as you know safety must be one of our top priorities!

A reminder-Upon arrival you must pull all the way around the horseshoe to allow for other cars to park behind you so that we accomodate a spot for as many families as possible.

There will be NO PARKING in Town Hall lots.

Safety:

We ask that parents, guardians or anyone you place on your child's pick up list have a picture ID with them. As we get to know our families and caregivers, we may ask for an ID, to verify our caregivers..

Tuition:

The Lockbox for dropping off tuition is now at door #7. No CASH should be placed into this box. Please do not use the one at the front of the building where the administration office is. Remember to put your child's name in the memo section of your check.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Safety Books

During Parent Orientation we discussed student safety and I shared the titles of the two books that we use to help teach students about safety. Below you will find a brief synopsis of the books.

The Ant Hill Disaster is a children's book by Julia Cook about a young ant who is afraid to return to school after it is destroyed.

The Elephant in the Room: A Lockdown Story is a frolicking tale of circus animals, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and a fun-loving teacher. In this book children are protected from the harsh realities of lockdown drills while learning life-saving procedures.

I'm a Super Reader

Help us reach our goal of 10,000 books

One of the most important gifts we can give our children is to help them learn to read and write so that they can succeed in school and beyond. Confident, active readers are able to use their reading skills to follow their passions and curiosity about the world. We all read for a purpose: to be entertained, to take a journey of the imagination, to connect with others, to figure out how to do something, and to learn about history, science, the arts, and everything else.

We hope to foster the love of reading in our students. Please help us by helping your child read each day. Attached is a reading chart that your child can color each time they read a book. Bring the reading chart to school once all apples are colored and your child will receive a Super Reader sticker. You may choose to only read 10 books per month or submit as many reading charts as you want. We will be keeping track by classroom. If JECC students reach the goal of 10,000 books, we will have a Bubble party at the end of the year.

Help our students reach their goal!
