Teacher Interview with Mrs.Lewellen , CMS Teacher

Hi my name is Mrs. Lewellen, this is my 5th year of teaching. I grew up in Chelan so my husband and I moved back here to be close to family, and teach PE.

My biggest time commitment outside of teaching is coaching. I am the head coach of the high school volleyball team and I also help coach the Kahiau club in the winter. In the summer I help coach beach volleyball. Other than that I love to garden and cook!

The thing I like most about teaching is being able to connect and hang out with kids. I like thinking creatively to try and make things as fun as possible for kids, and I’ve really been enjoying team teaching with Mr Rainville!

I graduated from Western Washington University and I come from a large family of mostly teachers, so having that example for me growing up really led me to become a teacher. I love being with kids and working with them, so that combined with the example that I had from my family members led me to teach.

My favorite place to be is Stehekin because it is so beautiful and peaceful. One thing students should know about me is that I really do care about every student in my class, and my ultimate goal is to see them succeed. If anyone ever has a question or concern I’m always happy to have a conversation and connect!

Teacher Interview with Mr.Arnot, CMS Teacher

Teacher: __Mr.Arnot__________________

Is this your first year of teaching? If not, how many years have you been teaching? I have over 28 years of teaching experience. Within those 28 years, I have taught high school special education and English, Middle School drama and English, and elementary special education.

What brought you to Chelan middle school and what do you teach? My wife and I bought property out in Chelan and enjoy spending our recreational time on this side of the mountains. We hope to begin building a house this Spring. I decided to begin living here full time while working on the new house and work for this amazing school district in such a tight-knit, friendly, and happy community. I teach 6th grade Health and 7/8th grade leadership in the morning. I am also the Dean of Students for the middle school, which is similar to an assistant principal’s duties of handling school discipline and attendance.

Tell us a little about yourself. family, pets, hobbies, etc.

I like to go boating and sailing is a favorite hobby of mine. I also love fishing, foraging for wild mushrooms, and playing fetch with my Mini-labradoodle Daisy. I just celebrated my 30th anniversary this summer with my wife Patty. We have one child–Ashley who just turned 23 and graduated with Bachelor of Arts in English from Western Washington University.

What do you like most about teaching? I enjoy working with all people in general, but especially young adults, who I can offer wisdom and support to as they gain skills in life and mature into responsible, caring and contributing citizens.

What college or university did you attend? University of Washington for my BA in English, and Western Washington University for my MA in Education.

What inspired you to become a teacher? My high school English and Drama, and also Physics teacher were a big inspiration for me, as I could tell that they had fun doing what they did and truly enjoyed inspiring others.

If you were to choose a favorite place to be, where would you choose and why? Lake Chelan, of course! It is one of the most beautiful places in the world. I also enjoy spending time out in the forest at my off-grid cabin in the Lake Wenatchee–Plain, WA area.

What is one thing students should know about you? I put students first! Come and talk to me about anything, anytime. You are all valuable for just being you! I also like almost every kind of food that exists. And especially home cooked meals!
