Dear Parents/Guardians:
Happy New Year! I would like to extend best wishes to all for a happy and healthy new year. It’s a pleasure to see all of the children, teachers, and staff back at school after a long, well-deserved break.
While the temperatures in Florida may not be as cold as in other parts of the country, it’s still important to dress appropriately during the winter months as temperatures fluctuate readily. Be sure your child has dressed appropriately and comes to school ready to play at recess and physical education time.
As a reminder, please be sure your child’s name is clearly labeled on all their personal items including their lunch box and water bottle. This simple step will your child in identifying their personal belongings and if lost will help get it returned.
Here is a look at what is happening at your school as we kick off 2026 together! As always, please contact the school regarding any questions you may have.

Estimados padres/tutores:

From the School Nurse
Happy New Year! One New Year’s resolution that you can make is helping your children create good sleep habits. Sleep is essential for our students. It helps them learn and remember the information that is being taught. It can also affect their behavior. Children who do not get enough sleep may not appear to be sleepy, but instead struggle with attentiveness, hyperactivity, aggression, or disruptive behavior.
We are seeing students coming to the clinic tired due to not having a good night’s sleep. While we do allow them time to rest in the clinic, this is not the best place for them to do so since they have the potential to being exposed to other children who are sick.
The National Sleep Institute recommends these hours of sleep for school age children:
Ages 6-13, need to have 9-11 hours of sleep.
Ages 14-17, need to have 8-10 hours of sleep.
Here are suggestions to help your student get adequate sleep:
-Avoid caffeine in the late afternoon and/or before bed.
-Make sure that they have a consistent bedtime.
-Keep bedrooms dark, cool, and quiet.
-Encourage them to eat healthy food and do physical movement daily.
-Set a clear time that all electronics are shut off and not easily assessable should they wake up in the middle of the night.
Start 2026 with making sleep a priority for your family!
-Anímenlos a comer alimentos saludables y a hacer ejercicio físico a diario.

SAFETY / SEGURIDAD
The school will conduct safety drills each month that the school is in session. We want each student to understand and be aware of the importance of these drills and not be afraid when the alarm is sounded. By practicing they will know what to do and how to do it.
If you have any questions regarding any of these Safety Drills or other safety concerns, please contact the front office at 239-242-1023
