Little Bites Big Smiles Cafe Cart
Fridays have gotten a little sweeter at Vernfield! Thanks to the students in M101, our teachers and staff have been enjoying a special Friday snack cart. Students are building valuable communication and customer service skills as they interact with staff, take orders, and deliver treats with a smile. They have done a fantastic job preparing and serving these special snacks, and their hard work has made Fridays something everyone looks forward to. Thank you, M101, for spreading kindness and joy throughout our school community!
Thank you!
Thank you to our Home and School Hospitality Committee for your generosity and support in coordinating two fantastic events for our staff and bus drivers. The Friday lunch tailgate was a wonderful treat for our teachers, and the Bus Driver Appreciation celebration during Bus Safety Week was a meaningful way to recognize the important role our drivers play each day. We are grateful for your time, thoughtfulness, and commitment to making our school community feel valued and appreciated. Please reach out to any of our H&S Board Members (contact information below) if you are interested in helping with H&S events.
Reading Olympics Grades 4 & 5
We are happy to announce that Vernfield will participate in the Reading Olympics Competition this year. The MCIU Reading Olympics is a countywide reading event that encourages students in grades 4 and 5 to increase the quality and quantity of books they read for enjoyment. If your 4th or 5th grader would like to participate, please use click here this link to access more information and the permission slip. Students can also pick up a permission form in the library.
Car Line Reminders - Thank you!
Thank you for your partnership and support in helping our morning arrival run safely and efficiently. We appreciate the positive response to our car line procedures. As a reminder, please have students exit on the curb side of the vehicle whenever possible and remain in your vehicle during drop-off, as our staff is available to assist students with their belongings. Your cooperation helps ensure a safe and smooth start to each school day.
October is Bully Prevention Month
The month of October is Bully Prevention Month, students will be participating in Bullying Awareness and Prevention lessons throughout the month of October. Here is an outline of what will be taught during a guidance lesson with Ms. Kissell.
- Kindergarten: Students will focus on ways to be a good friend and how to get along with each other.
- First Grade: Students will listen to the book Thea the Yellow Tomato by Stephanie Brown, focusing on accepting ourselves and others. We will focus on the first R of bully prevention; Recognize (is it unfair, one sided, happen over and over, makes you feel sad/scared).
- Second Grade: Students will learn about the second R in bully prevention, refuse. We will read the book, The Bully Blockers Club by Teresa Bateman and Jackie Urbanovic and practice ways to refuse a bully, ask them to stop, ignore, walk away, report to an adult.
- Third Grade: Students will review the 3R's to bully prevention: Recognize, Refuse, and Report. Students will practice assertive communication skills and I-Messages (I feel... When you.. Please..) to communicate their needs.
- Fourth Grade: Students are empowered to stand up to bullying and practice changing negative self-talk into positive self-talk.
- Fifth Grade: We focus on cyberbullying which is a critical piece as our children get older and learn to stop, block and tell when someone is breaking the rules of cyber safety.
Attendance and Transportation Updates
We are excited to welcome Mrs. Rebecca McNeff to our Vernfield community. Mrs. McNeff is our new attendance administrative assistant. You can reach her at the attendvf@soudertonsd.org email address. Please include your child's first and last name in your communication as she gets to know all of our students.
On a different note please help support our bus drivers by reminding our students about expected behaviors on the bus. Students are working on staying in their seats, using kind words, and keeping hands and feet to themselves on the bus. Please partner with us in reinforcing this at home.
