A Message from the Williston Schools Leadership Team
by Angela Filion, Allen Brook School Principal
Dear ABS Families and Caregivers,
There are some moments in a school year that just feel special and our Kindergarten Meet and Greet was absolutely one of them. It was such a joy to welcome our newest learners and their caregivers into our school community. Watching our incoming Kindergarteners explore their new spaces, meet new friends, and begin to feel a sense of belonging reminded all of us why this work matters so much. To our new families, welcome. We’re so glad you’re here!
We also have something really exciting happening right now in our school! Our students have been working with our Artist in Residence in PE, Master Yordan, and it has been incredible to see their focus, confidence, and joy grow through this experience. This was made possible due to the support of our WFAP and their ability to help fund some of these amazing experiences for our youth….thank you! We encourage you to come see it for yourself! Tonight (April 17th) from 6:00–7:00 p.m. in the school gym, watch your students shine in our K-2 Martial Arts Showcase.
I also want to take a moment to share a quick update on our bus situation. Cleanup efforts are still underway, and while we’re not fully back to normal yet, we are seeing steady, incremental progress, which is encouraging. I know that arrival and dismissal have required extra patience and flexibility, and I truly appreciate the way our community has continued to show up with both - It has not gone unnoticed. At this point, our EV buses remain grounded while investigations are ongoing. As soon as we have a clear timeline for returning to our typical arrival and dismissal procedures, we will be sure to let you know.
Wishing you all a great school break with your kiddos.
Be well,
Angela

This April Break, Consider Planning a Break from Screens
The Student Assistance Program (SAP) team supports students in grades 5-12 by promoting well-being, prevention, and healthy decision-making, and serves as a resource for both students and caregivers. As April break approaches and routines shift, we encourage families to create balance by setting small, realistic limits on screen time to help improve sleep, mood, and connection. Even short breaks from devices can make a positive difference and open up time for meaningful activities together, like screen-free meals or afternoons. Overall, the goal is not to eliminate technology, but to help young people build healthy habits, awareness, and balance over time. Here are a handful of great suggestions and strategies to take a break from screens.
Save the Date: A Celebration of Languages
On Wednesday, May 6, you are invited to a celebration of languages spoken across our district. From 5-7 p.m. at the CVU Library, community members will learn and share a variety of languages through an interactive gathering of culture, history, songs, snacks, and more. We look forward to celebrating together!

Hill Closings
In the event that weather and/or road conditions make it unsafe for our buses to travel hill roads, we will notify parents and/or caregivers of students on those routes with as much notice as possible.
When hills are closed for afternoon bus runs, if no one arrives to meet younger students, they will be brought back to school until arrangements are made for them to be picked up. Please talk with your bus drivers to let them know if you are comfortable letting your child walk home from the drop off location.
We will use the automated SchoolMessenger system to notify families on the hill roads.
