SFSD Frequently Asked Questions SFSD Frequently Asked Questions

How will a district our size get PBIS going?

Some schools started to develop their PBIS framework prior to this year. However, a majority of schools have started development this year. Each school has a PBIS Team attending professional development and meeting monthly. These teams will relay information they learn to their staff. It is expected that this process will take three to five years, and even after that, modifications may continuously be made based on data.

How are we going to acknowledge all students?

Within Tier 1, schools will develop an acknowledgement system to reinforce student behavior. This system will be used for all students. Examples include: paper tickets, stickers, brag tags, and more.

Is every school implementing PBIS, at every level?

All schools K-12 will be implementing PBIS as part of the district initiative.

Are there easy ways to run reports on a student/class using SWIS?

Each school has staff who function as "data analysts" within SWIS. These staff members can easily view student-specific data via the student dashboard. The drill-down tool within SWIS also allows data analysts to filter data by grade, time of day, staff, perceived motivation, and more.

"YOU GET MORE OF WHAT YOU PAY ATTENTION TO"

This is the heart of POSITIVE Behavior Interventions & Supports (PBIS). The more you pay attention to the expected behaviors students demonstrate, the more students will engage in those positive behaviors.

Next time you see a student engaging in an unexpected behavior, try attending to the students who are doing what they should. Giving those students praise may get the other student back on track. Once that student starts to demonstrate expected behaviors, give him or her attention too!

PBIS Incentive Ideas
Incentives (reinforcers) can be used to increase your students' positive behaviors. However, coming up with ideas for incentives may be a challenging task. Check out the above link to view a list of options!

Celebrating Success!

Congrats to Alexis Anfinson (Robert Frost), ShaLee Bauer (MS/HS Instructional Coach), and Stacy Nelson (CTE) for being selected as November WINNERS!

Keep an eye out for a gift coming through school mail.

Most elementary and middle schools have started documenting behavior incidents into SWIS. This system will allow schools to make data-based decisions regarding school-wide behavior. Thank you to all of the PBIS Teams who have supported staff with this roll-out.
