A Message from our Wonderful Principal A Message from our Wonderful Principal

Mrs. Williams Mrs. Williams

A Wonderful Start to the School Year!

It’s hard to believe that it is October already! These first weeks have been filled with so much learning, laughter, growth, and excitement, and it has been wonderful to see our Aronimink Royals settling into the school year and making our building feel like home.

Over the past month, our students have been learning and practicing our school-wide expectations, building positive relationships with their teachers and classmates, and, most importantly, rediscovering the joy of learning. From classrooms to the playground and everywhere in between, our students are showing us each day what it means to be part of the Aronimink community.

Across every grade level, students have been working hard to learn routines and demonstrate safe, respectful, and responsible behavior. Many students have already earned Golden Royal Bucks for making positive choices and being great examples for others. Each week, Mr. Walden—our very own PBIS Man!—holds a drawing where lucky Golden Royal Buck earners from each grade have the chance to win a special prize. There is always plenty of excitement when those names are pulled!

We are also so proud of our students’ accomplishments. This Wednesday, October 7th, we will hold our first Student of the Month Assembly, celebrating nearly 50 students who truly exemplified the spirit of UD Royalty by demonstrating our character trait of the month—Safety. It was wonderful to see our school community come together to celebrate these students and cheer them on. These moments are what make our school so special!

Of course, September and October are also filled with some of our favorite Aronimink traditions. We were thrilled by the incredible turnout for our 5th Grade Community Car Wash, which raised nearly $1,500 to support our 5th-grade class. We also loved welcoming families for Back-to-School Night. And we’re just getting started! We have so many wonderful opportunities ahead to come together as a school family. Be sure to mark your calendars for Family Heritage Night, Home & School Fall Outdoor Bingo Night and Harvest Fest, cherished Aronimink traditions filled with fun, laughter, connection, and plenty of school spirit.

Thank you for helping make Aronimink such a welcoming and joyful place for our students. We are so proud of the way our school year is off to a wonderful start, and I feel incredibly fortunate to be part of this amazing community. I can’t wait to see what the coming weeks bring!

As always, thank you for your continued support, partnership, and enthusiasm. There is so much to celebrate at Aronimink!

PBIS MONTHLY UPDATES FROM OUR VERY OWN Mr. Walden PBIS MONTHLY UPDATES FROM OUR VERY OWN Mr. Walden

PBIS Update from Mr. Walden (PBIS Man!)

We have had a GREAT start to the school year at Aronimink! Our students have been working hard to show what it means to Be Royal each and every day.

At Aronimink, our PBIS expectations focus on our 3 B’s: Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be Responsible

These expectations are important not only at school, but at home and throughout our community. Families, please take a few minutes to talk with your children about what it looks and sounds like to be safe, respectful, and responsible at home, at school, on the bus, and in the community. When we use the same language at school and at home, we help our Royals build positive habits that will last a lifetime!

We are so proud of the great choices our students have made so far this year. Keep earning those Golden Tickets, keep showing your Royal Pride, and keep following those 3 B’s!

Remember: Every day is a GREAT day to be an Aronimink Royal!

FANTASTIC FOURTH GRADERS FANTASTIC FOURTH GRADERS

Fourth grade students are gearing up for an energy transfer race in Science. Students are building on learning up push and pull forces from third grade and learning about how energy doesn’t disappear, but is transferred. Students are working together in teams to build cars to keep “Egg” safe as more and more energy is transferred to “Egg’s” car. Students will work to create safety systems to keep “Egg” safe and prevent energy transferring to “Egg” in a crash.

Math finds students adding and subtracting numbers through the hundred thousands place. Students are working to estimate and round larger numbers to any place value. Working with larger numbers in fourth grade allows students to continue to build on previously learned numbers and operations skills. Identifying a number’s expanded form, name/word form and standard form continues. Knowing the difference between a digit, a number and the value of that digit in a number into the millions place is continually reinforced and practiced.

In English- Language Arts, students are focused on investigating what it means to have a great heart. Students are reading poetry, nonfiction, fiction and examining art all related to the heart. Sometimes students are examining literal language about a heart, such as exercising to keep a healthy heart or figurative language about a heart, like a broken heart. Students are also learning how to write a cohesive paragraph that starts with a topic sentence that is supported by evidence from the text.

TERRIFIC THIRD GRADERS TERRIFIC THIRD GRADERS

Third Grade has been off to a great start. We have reviewed our expectations & routines throughout the first weeks of school.

A few reminders....

We are taking almost ALL assessments online this year and will be utilizing our chromebooks DAILY. This means you child must come in daily with their chromebook CHARGED. We do not have the capability to have every child charge daily, so please make this a routine nightly.

Secondly, your child MUST have headphones that plug into their chromebooks. They can not be bluetooth or ear buds. Please be sure to send in headphones that stay in school.

Please be sure your child is practicing their math facts. Xtra math is a great APP on classlink that can help with math facts. We have also linked some math fact games and flashcards below. Students should have mastered addition and subtration up to 20 by now and should be beginning to master multiplication facts.

Please be sure your child is completing their homework nightly. They have online assignments nightly, be sure they are logging on and completing them every night.

Lastly, READ, READ, READ!!! The way your child will get better at reading is to read. Be sure to practice reading and asking questions with your child nightly.

As always, reach out to your child's teacher if you have questions regarding your child.

SUPER SECOND GRADERS SUPER SECOND GRADERS

Welcome back families! The second grade teachers have enjoyed getting to know your children. We have spent the first few weeks of school learning about each other and practicing classroom and school routines. The students have done a good job adjusting to the new second grade expectations and procedures. Academically, students are working hard familiarizing themselves with our ELA, Social Studies, and Math routines. In Math, students are utilizing strategies to fluently add and subtract numbers to 20. Ask your child about counting on, doubles, making a ten, and identifying number patterns. Communities are the focus in Social Studies. Maybe your child would sing and do the motions for our community song or tell you about urban, rural, and suburban communities. Foundational Skills in ELA included phonics patterns with closed syllables and words with digraphs. We have been reading texts centered around seasonal change and how it affects nature and people. Thank you for helping to create a smooth start to the school year. We are looking forward to working together to help your child have a happy and successful year in second grade!

Congratulations to our school’s current Pull-Up Leaders! Their dedication, effort, and commitment to building strength are something to celebrate.

Strength training is an important part of helping kids develop strong muscles and bones, coordination, body control, and confidence. When taught appropriately and with proper technique, strength exercises can be a safe and positive way for students to build lifelong healthy habits.

Keep challenging yourself, practice on the climbing bars at recess, stay consistent, and remember—strength grows with practice!

LIBRARY with the WONDERFUL MS. PAULY LIBRARY with the WONDERFUL MS. PAULY

What Are We Learning in the Library?

We have had a busy start to the school year in the Library! We have reviewed our Library rules and expectations, including how to be respectful and responsible members of our Library community.

Students have learned how to take care of their borrowed books. We talked about keeping books away from food, drinks, younger siblings, and pets. If an accident happens to a library book, students should let Ms. Pauly or Mrs. Hart know right away so we can help. We have also reviewed the importance of staying safe in the Library by walking at all times.

Students have also been learning how to locate nonfiction books using the Dewey Decimal System. In addition to learning important Library skills, we are enjoying some wonderful literature together!

"What Makes You Happy?"

To kick off the school year in Art, students across all grade levels were asked, “What makes you happy?” They then designed a smiley face disguised as something that brings them joy - whether it was a favorite person, animal, activity, place, or experience.

It has been so much fun seeing all of their happy faces come together! We hope their artwork reminds everyone to slow down, find joy, and make time for what makes you happy!
