Principal's Message

Our second semester is underway and classes have now been up and running for several weeks. We had some of the typical shuffling with some of our high school students as they adjusted their own schedules to meet their needs. As a result, our sr. high shop class was down to only 5 students, so we have made the decision to not run this class. Students are finishing up their current projects in anticipation of obtaining their 1 credit and will be shuffling to an additional class. This will free up a little more teacher time, so there will be a few adjustments ahead. Mr. Martz, our shop teacher, will pick up Mrs. Freadrich’s Driver’s Education/Study Hall class as well as ECS physical education. This will allow Mrs. Freadrich to do intervention with some of our needier students in elementary. These changes are projected to take effect on Monday, March 9. We are confident that these changes are in the best interests of all of our students.

Some of you may be aware that our school had a part-time temporary Educational Assistant position posted recently. One of our current Educational Assistants will be taking a temporary leave of absence for approximately 5 weeks. This will mean the addition of someone new to our school to cover the vacancy created from the leave. This change will take effect on March 16, 2026. The replacement has not yet been determined, so stay tuned for more information.

Kindergarten registration for the 2026-2027 school year in Battle River officially opens on Feb. 2, 2026. We encourage parents to register their children at their earliest convenience, as this is a key component in our planning process. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact our school office.

After 33 ½ years in Education (2 ½ years as a teacher, 6 years a s Vice Principal and 25 years as a Principal), I have made the decision to retire. This was not an easy decision, as I have always loved the work I do and will certainly miss it. I did not come to Forestburg with the idea that I would retire after 2 years. Forestburg School and Battle River School Division have been amazing places to work and build positive relationships with students, staff, parents and community members. I will undoubtedly cherish my time here once I am gone. I have had many wonderful connections over the years and still stay in contact with many of them to this day. I will continue to work hard with the same care, commitment and dedication over the coming months to serve in my role. More information on my replacement will be shared once that information is available.

If you have any questions or concerns about your child’s progress, please feel free to reach out to your child’s teacher. Thank you, as parents, for all you do to support your child’s learning.

Mr. Anhorn

Principal, Forestburg School

SOAR Week Success! SOAR Week Success!

During the week of Teacher’s Convention, our Kindergarten to Grade 12 students took part in an exciting and engaging SOAR Week!

Monday – Literacy Day: Students teamed up for cross-grade partner reading in the gym, building connections while sharing great books. We wrapped up the day with a fun, school-wide game of rock-paper-scissors that had everyone cheering!

Tuesday – Numeracy Day: Our SOAR groups put their math skills to the test with interactive math games that made learning both challenging and fun.

Wednesday – Sock Hop: We ended the week with an epic Sock Hop! It was heartwarming to see our older students dancing with the younger ones and everyone having such a fantastic time together.

Thank you to everyone who helped make SOAR Week such a memorable experience for our school community!

SOAR Olympics Bring Our School Together! SOAR Olympics Bring Our School Together!

On February 20th, students from Kindergarten to Grade 6 came together for our exciting SOAR Olympics! Working in their cross-graded SOAR groups, students participated in a variety of fun, winter-inspired events including skeleton racing, bobsled races, biathlon, curling, hockey, and even Olympic-themed colouring.

The day was a fantastic way to recognize and celebrate our Canadian athletes preparing for the 2026 Olympics, while also building connections across grade levels. It was wonderful to see students of all ages encouraging one another, showing school spirit, and enjoying time together.

Events like these truly highlight the strength of our Forestburg School community!

FNMI Day FNMI Day

On Thursday, February 26th, we were honoured to welcome Brad Rabbit, a First Nations Elder and Knowledge Keeper, who presented to our Grade 4–8 and Grade 9–12 students about Indigenous culture, history, and traditions. Students gained valuable insights and appreciated the opportunity to learn directly from his knowledge and experiences.

In the afternoon, our entire student body from Kindergarten to Grade 12 gathered in their cross-graded SOAR groups and rotated through four engaging sessions. Students created Métis Dot Art, participated in a gallery walk featuring Indigenous artwork, played traditional Inuit games in the gym, and made and shared bannock together.

It was a wonderful afternoon of hands-on learning, reflection, and community-building as we deepened our understanding of Indigenous cultures together as a school community.

Jr. Girls

The Junior high girls basketball season has wrapped up. They had a great season making it to a playoff game for a spot at regionals. Unfortunately the girls ended up in a tight loss that finalized their season. It was a great year with a lot of skill building and welcoming new players! I enjoyed coaching these girls every year as it is a group of amazing young athletes. I was also grateful to be coaching along side Kristin Kells this year who added her valuable knowledge and love of the game. Thank you ladies for a fabulous year! Leah Hays

Jr. Boys

The JH boys had a fun season of learning and growing on the basketball court this winter. The boys ended up narrowly missing a trip to Regionals, but had fun in representing our school in league and tourney play. Huge thanks to all of the boys who played and to Spencer Woody for doing a great job in coaching them.

We have won a couple of tourneys this season in Stettler and Vegreville in addition to finishing 3rd in our central league. The boys have qualified for Central Zones in Bawlf on March 13-14. There they will fight for a spot in 1A Basketball Provincials in Breton at the end of March.
