Guidance News & the Return of Spartan of the Month

Monthly Focus: Generosity

This month students at SIS will be learning about generosity and how to be generous with their time, talents and gifts. Generosity is the act of giving without expecting anything in return. Student’s have been learning about empathy in their guidance units and will continue to understand that empathy in action is compassion. Students will be brainstorming in their classrooms ideas of how to be generous in their homes, schools and communities. Our Spartan of the Month will be chosen by recognizing those students who have continuously demonstrated acts of generosity through the school. Mrs. Holtz will award the Spartan of the Month prior to our winter break and they will be acknowledged at a school wide assembly.

In addition to demonstrating generosity within our school, we will also be extending that into our community by having a penny wars competition between our 4th and 5th graders. We will begin collecting change in a container in the lunch room for each grade. This money will then be donated to help support our Solon Senior Support provide their Christmas Joy Delivery and Bouquet a Day for the Holidays. This is a senior National Honor Society project being led by Annika Kruse and Alex Locke. We look forward to supporting our seniors in the Solon community, while being a generous bunch at SIS. If you have any questions, please contact hpentico@solon.k12.ia.us or mholtz@solon.k12.ia.us

Winter Reminders

As the weather continues to drop and we prepare for the potential of snow, please keep the following in mind:

  • Recess is held outdoors as long as the real feel is 10° or higher.
  • Students can ALWAYS use encouragement to wear their coats, gloves, and hats outside.
  • It's a good idea to write your child's name in his/her personal belongings.
  • When snow begins to fall, students will need boots and snow pants to go off of the concrete during recess.
