The Classroom Connection
January 2026
Happy New Year!
Happy New Year and welcome back! January is a natural pause point—a chance to reflect, refine, and reset without starting over. As we begin the second half of the year, this edition of the Classroom Connection focuses on practical classroom management strategies that strengthen routines, clarify expectations, and support positive student behavior.
Think small adjustments, intentional resets, new ideas, and consistent follow-through to help set the tone for a strong and productive semester ahead.
10 Questions for a January Classroom Management "Tune Up"
Use these quick tune-up questions to reflect on what’s working, identify areas to refine, and set a clear focus for the semester ahead.
- What are my non-negotiable expectations this semester?
- Which expectations need to be re-taught or clarified?
- Where do students seem unsure of what success looks like?
Where do I repeat directions most often?
When are students most engaged during lessons?
When does off-task behavior typically begin?
How consistent is my response to common behaviors?
-
Where could I use fewer words and clearer cues?
What helps students feel successful in my room?
- How can I reinforce positive behavior more intentionally?
