Principal's Message

Dear NLABC Families,

We are off to a wonderful start this school year! Thank you for helping us launch the year with so much energy and support. A special congratulations goes out to our students and families for the success of our Jog-A-Thon—together we raised over $30,000 to support our school programs. What an incredible accomplishment!

We have many exciting activities planned for the year ahead. Please mark your calendars for our school carnival, which will now take place in February. We’ll also continue favorite traditions such as our Thanksgiving Feast, Red, White, and Blue performances, Great Awards, and of course—Tiger Reading.

Speaking of Tiger Reading… I’ve already heard the buzz from students that they want to see me camping out on the roof this year! We’re still working on what the challenge will be, but one thing I can promise: there will be no smoothies made of peanut butter, hot sauce, mustard, and other refrigerator “surprises.” We’ve been there, done that!

For more details on school needs, expectations, and ways to help make everything run smoothly, please take time to read this month’s Tiger Tracks. I am so grateful for your partnership and look forward to a fantastic year ahead.

With appreciation,
Dorissa Martin
Principal

Go Tigers—here’s to learning, laughter, and lots of reading! 🐯📚

PHILOSOPHICAL CORNER

This year the "Philosophical Corner" is a new addition to Tiger Tracks. This is an opportunity for the school, the principal and the parent advisory committee to share items that are expected and that make us different than a neighborhood school. If you have any wonderings please submit them to martin_dorissa@asdk12.org or nlabcboard@gmail.com.

  • Please remember to sign the Philosophical Agreement, Plagiarism Agreement, Dress Code Agreement and submit them back to your child's teacher.

Please help us out

Below you will see the Volunteer Application that needs to be completed before coming in to support our school. Please put this at the top of your to do list. Other routines that help are:

  • Please use the Raptor sign in when coming into the school. Any time parents need to walk to the classes even before school we ask that you use the sign in system. Teachers will be looking for your visitor badges. (Kindy parents will still be able to support their children down the Kindy hallway.)
  • Students in grades 1st- 8th are becoming more independent - goodbyes should happen before the external doors. If parents still need some reassurance, we support an extra goodbye in the main foyer.
  • When leaving the school please check back out through Raptor.
  • If you will be signing out your child, have ID ready, we try hard, but we don't always remember everyone.
  • Parent drop off and pick up is much more efficient when students are able to get out on their own.
  • Please make sure you pull forward as much as possible, so that we can accommodate more cars at one time.

ASD Volunteer Application for 2025-26
Please click on box above

The Anchorage School District is committed to inviting parents and other community stakeholders to be active participants in student success. Volunteers encourage and inspire excellence in learning and goal achievement for all! ASD is also committed to school and student safety and requires a background check for those volunteering with and around students. Applications are processed through the Office of Equity & Compliance, Volunteer Services.

All volunteers (includes chaperones, drivers, and partner organizations) must complete a volunteer application and sign a liability waiver each school year. This requirement ensures that the District has the most up-to-date information on those volunteering.

Please click the button above to start the process.

If you would like to volunteer for supervision support during lunch, Monday morning late start, before school or after school, and can do that weekly at a specific time, we would gladly add you to the schedule. A school can never have enough supervision during these times. I only ask that this commitment be consistent, filling holes are not easy to do, as we are all stretched thin.

USE "STOPIT" REPORT - BULLYING

Reporting Process for Harassment, Intimidation, and Bullying

School Board Policy 5131.43 requires, at least once per semester, that students, parents, guardians, and staff members be informed of all available options for reporting concerns of harassment, intimidation, or bullying, including an option to report concerns anonymously. In compliance with this policy principals should share the following information with their staff, students, and families:

The Anchorage School District is dedicated to providing a safe and civil learning environment. Harassment, intimidation, and bullying disrupt a student's ability to learn and a school's ability to educate. Students and staff are expected to demonstrate positive character traits and values. Conduct and speech must be civil and respectful to promote harmonious and courteous relations in the school environment.

If a student experiences or another person observes a student being harassed, intimidated, or bullied they should report it to a school administrator or through the STOPit anonymous reporting application. This Harassment, Intimidation & Bullying flier outlines the reporting process.
