FSMA Night at OASIS
Yes, we recognize Mondays and the location are not ideal but here is why... OASIS gives us back 100% of the ticket price if we come on a Monday so that makes this a great fundraiser for our PTO. Not only does it raise a lot of money, it is a great way for families to connect, get to know kids your child talks about, and enjoy some OASIS fun at a very discounted rate (50% off).
Advance Tickets: $12.50 per child or $30 per family of 3 kids or more
High School Night
Join us to learn more about the process of applying to high school and meet with representatives from many local high schools (They come here to recruit because they want out kids!). It is highly recommended that ALL 7th and 8th graders attend this event.
No need to RSVP... we will plan on all of our middle school families attending.
"Watch Me Work" Day
Are you curious to find out what happens during the day at FSMA? Then this is the parent engagement event for you! Come and see your child in action in his/her classroom (K – 6th Grade)… you will shadow your child, watching what they do, to get a feel for what their learning is like. You will likely see how they manage time using their work plan, how they interact with their peers, and you will witness the independent learning that is abundant in our classrooms. You may also get to participate in some activities together.
Come ready to learn about our school… and be ready to learn a new concept or skill because the learning is contagious at FSMA!
Your child's teacher will send out information about times that your child's classroom is open for visitors.
Vocabulary Parade
What is a Vocabulary Parade? On Monday, October 16th the children will bring a “costume” to school. Costumes are a way to show your understanding of an age-appropriate vocabulary word of your choice. For the parade, students will put on their costume, walk down French St showcasing their costume (we close down the street), and everyone will deepen their understanding of words! Families are invited to the parade!
4/5/6 Overnight Fundraising
You may notice lots of fundraising going on this month at FSMA... from our upcoming Penny Wars to pretzel sales and movie night, our 4th/5th/6th graders are busy developing plans to offset the cost of their overnight trip. We think it is important for them to be a part of the process and to work to bring down the overall cost through creative fundraising. In addition, we offer scholarships to ensure that every child can attend, regardless of financial need. If you would like to sponsor a child to attend their overnight field trip or if you have a business who would like to make a donation to this cause, it can be done through our online payment system - just put overnight sponsor in the comments.
One Book, One School - Join Us!
In an effort to teach children about diversity and equality, this year, our entire FSMA community will be participating in “One Book One School” (OBOS). Teachers will be reading books with their class and discussing and parents will be encouraged to read/talk about the book in their homes. According to an anti-racist author and Montessori educator, Tiffany Jewell, classroom discussions are “the beginning of a journey in lifelong anti-racism work”. Following the conclusion of the books, a parent night will be held where we will share discussions together as a parent-student-teacher community.
The following books have been purchased for all classrooms. Feel free to purchase for your at-home library too! More information about how to get involved will be shared as we launch this powerful, inclusive, important project with our community.
Book (K/1st): Identity (Sept): The Skin You Live In by Michael Tyler
Justice (Oct): We are Water Protectors by Carole Lindstrom
Activism (Nov): I Am an Anti-Racist Superhero by Jennifer Nicole Bacon
