SRO Corner 🚔
Dear Poudre School District Families,
Hello, my name is Officer Sarah Klich and I am the School Resource Officer (SRO) for your child’s school. Each month, I will be sending out a monthly topic that the SRO’s would like for families to know in an effort to keep your child and the community safer.
This month the School Resource Officer Team would like to speak to you about the safety of e-bike/e-motor transportation. There have been several incidents involving students and children in our community. We believe parent awareness about safety and laws regarding these modes of transportation are the first step in ensuring our children are safe.
Here is a graphic of what is and is not allowed when it comes to electronic modes of transportation:
We would like to note, any device classified as a low-power scooter requires a driver’s license and insurance, and any device classified as an electric motorcycle requires a motorcycle license and insurance. In addition, any device in the class 3 e-bike category requires the rider to be over 16 years old on a roadway.
There are several questions when it comes to these modes of transportation. The best advice we have is to research and ask questions BEFORE purchasing one for your children.
Have a great month,
SRO Sarah Klich

Tip of the week:
💬💛Name the Feeling, Then Choose the Next Step! 💬💛
Before asking your child to push through a hard task, try helping them name what they’re feeling first.
Try it at home: When your child hits a wall during learning, take one slow breath together, then say what you see in a gentle voice: “You seem frustrated. That’s a tricky problem.” Then offer two choices that you’re happy with: “Do you want a break or a hint?” You can also try “Do you want to start with the easiest one or the one that feels most interesting?” Keep your tone tentative (“You seem...”) so your child can correct you, and let them pick.
Feeling words to try: Go beyond mad, sad, and happy to help your child build a bigger emotional vocabulary.
Tough feelings: frustrated, overwhelmed, nervous, disappointed, embarrassed, confused, discouraged, restless, worried, annoyed
Calm and comfortable feelings: calm, relaxed, content, peaceful, relieved
Positive feelings: proud, excited, curious, confident, determined, hopeful, grateful
Why it works: Putting a feeling into words helps the brain and nervous system settle, which makes it easier to think clearly again. Labeling emotions supports children’s emotional awareness and self-regulation, the skills we use to manage frustration, stay engaged, and recover from setbacks. Offering two choices gives children a sense of control and keeps them from feeling cornered, while still moving them toward the next step. With practice, kids begin to name their own feelings and choose their own strategies, building independence and resilience.
