January 7th,2026

Welcome to 2026! Welcome to 2026!

We would like to extend a very warm welcome back to all of our students and families after winter break! We truly hope that your time away was filled with rest, joy, and meaningful moments with the people you love. Whether you spent time traveling, celebrating traditions, or simply enjoying a slower pace, we hope the break brought you happiness and renewal.

It has been such a pleasure to see our hallways and classrooms full again this week. The energy, smiles, and excitement the students bring each day remind us how special our school community is, and we are so grateful to have everyone back together. We genuinely missed seeing our students and reconnecting with families, and we are thrilled to be back in our daily routines of learning, growing, and supporting one another.

As we begin the second half of the school year, we are filled with enthusiasm and optimism for all that is ahead. There is so much wonderful learning planned, along with opportunities for students to explore new ideas, strengthen their skills, and celebrate their progress. We are excited to continue working in partnership with our families to support each child’s success — academically, socially, and emotionally.

Thank you for being such an important part of our school community. We look forward to a joyful, productive, and inspiring remainder of the school year together!

Closing and Delays:

These decisions are made for the safety of our students. The district strives to make these decisions by 5:30 a.m. However, there are times when this is not possible.

If the district closes or delays for any reason, communication from the district will be shared in the following manner:

*Infinite Campus

*District Website

*Social Media

*Local TV Stations (WCMH; channel 4/WBNS; channel 10/WSYX; channel 6/Fox; channel 28)

Fee letters were sent home prior to the winter break for any student that has a balance due. You can pay school fees by logging onto the Parent Portal in Infinite Campus, send a check into school with your child or come into the office to pay with a credit card.

Greetings Families,

Happy New Year 2026! It is great seeing all of the students back in the building here at Sycamore Creek Elementary. Hopefully everyone had an enjoyable break.

January will be a busy time here at Sycamore Creek and in our district. . This is the time of year that we do Middle of Year Assessments for reading and math. Below are district assessments that will be given.

  • i-Ready Reading

  • i-Ready Math

  • Acadience Reading Assessments

Teachers will send home parent reports by the end of January.

Here are some at- home tips to support your child’s learning.

  • Read with and to your child.

  • After reading, ask your child to tell you what the book or passage was about.

  • Look over the Wit and Wisdom “Family Tip Sheet” for quarter 3 which gives ideas for books to read with your child and provides an overview of what they will be reading in class.

  • To help with math, look over the “Family Tip Sheet” which gives an overview of what is being taught during math class.

If Your Student is Sick:

Any student will be sent home if he or she has a temperature of 100 degrees or higher, vomiting, diarrhea, or signs and symptoms of a possible communicable disease.

Please keep students home until they remain fever-free for 24 hours without the aid of medication and are free of vomiting or diarrhea symptoms for 24 hours prior to returning to school. All children with suspicious rashes must be excluded from school until the rash has been determined non-contagious by a doctor.

Medication:

Medication prescribed by a provider: State of Ohio law and district policy require that students requiring administration of prescription medication during the school day must have a completed Request for Administration of Prescription Medication by School Personnel K-12 form on file in the school health clinic. This form must be completed by the prescribing provider, signed by the parent/guardian and must be provided to the school health staff prior to administration of the medication to the student. The form is located in the school health clinic and on the district website.

FDA-approved non-prescription medication: All non-prescription medication (including cough drops) must be stored in the school clinic. Dosages exceeding the manufacturer’s recommendations will require a medication authorization form completed by the treating health care provider.

Students are not permitted to transport medications to and from school. All medications are to be delivered to school by the parent/guardian.

Proper clothing for weather change:

Please ensure that your child has the appropriate clothing, coat, hat, scarf, gloves and etc. The students only remain indoors for recess when the "feels like temperature" (includes wind chill) falls below 25 degrees.
