A Message from Principal Meaux
Austin Families,
Just a reminder that Monday, October 12, is a student holiday, and there will be no school! When students return on Tuesday, October 13, our new school start time of 7:50 AM will go into effect. Please plan accordingly to ensure your child arrives on time and ready to learn!
We hope all of our Austin families enjoy a wonderful, relaxing long weekend! Stay safe, have fun, and we look forward to seeing our Cubs on Tuesday!
Destination Imagination (DI)
How can we get kids excited about learning, creating, and solving problems?
Destination Imagination (DI) is an educational program that gives students the opportunity to develop creativity, teamwork, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills through fun, hands-on challenges.
Students participate in teams of two to seven members, guided by an adult Team Manager. Each team selects one of seven challenges designed to encourage students to explore a topic, conduct research, develop ideas, and apply what they have learned to create their own unique solution—all without adult interference in the creative process.
DI Team Challenge categories include:
Technical
Scientific
Fine Arts
Improvisational
Engineering
Service Learning
Early Learning (K–2, non-competitive).
Teams typically meet at least once a week after school for approximately five months as they work together to develop and refine their solutions. Students then have the opportunity to present both their Team Challenge and Instant Challenge solutions to appraisers at the regional tournament.

Spring GT Testing Referral Window Opens October 1st
Parents, teachers, counselors, and administrators can refer any student for GT testing. Campus GT Facilitators are collecting referral forms from October 1–December 18, 2026. GT testing will occur on individual campuses between January 19–February 5, 2027, with testing results returned in spring 2027.
Scholastic Book Fair
The Scholastic Book Fair is coming to Austin Elementary October 14th–23rd! Please consider setting up an eWallet for your child.
What is an eWallet?
An eWallet is a convenient digital payment option that allows your child to shop at the Book Fair without needing to carry cash. It’s an easy, cash-free, worry-free way to shop!
The eWallet experience has been upgraded! Once you create an eWallet for your child, it will carry over from year to year and remain in their Scholastic account. This means they can use the same eWallet at future Book Fairs!
To set up an eWallet for your child, visit our school’s Book Fair homepage:
If your child already has an eWallet from a previous Book Fair, simply sign in to your Scholastic account to view the balance and manage the funds.
Funds are available immediately! From your account, you can add funds, create an eWallet for another child, invite friends and family to contribute, and more.
Open your child’s eWallet today and make Book Fair shopping easy and convenient

To support reading growth, students who did not receive a passing score on the Spring 2026 grade 3 STAAR Reading Language Arts (RLA) assessment are eligible for state-funded tutoring support through a Parent Access to Supplemental Supports (PASS) account. Applications for the $400 PASS tutoring grant opened this week and are now available through the PASS website. An email with instructions on how to apply for the grant was sent to the families of students who qualify.
Lunch Visitors
We love welcoming parents to have lunch with their children! Because space is limited, please use the SignUpGenius link below to schedule your visit. Your child will join you at our family table, but other students may not join you. This helps us keep everyone safe while still making room for families to enjoy this special time together. We look forward to seeing you!
